Job Description

As a Maintenance Technician III / Mechatronics & Robotics Technician, you lead a team of service technicians in the installation, maintenance, and repair of automated packaging and distribution equipment. You design solutions for complex technical problems, manage maintenance projects, and play a key role in training and mentoring both internal and contract technicians. You ensure the reliability of conveyor and control systems while promoting a strong safety culture across the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a safe working environment by consistently following and reinforcing all safety procedures.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all conveyor systems and related automated equipment in the facility.
  • Lead and audit preventive maintenance procedures to ensure equipment reliability and uptime.
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot relay logic, ladder diagrams, and control components including photo-eyes, motor starters, limit switches, proximity sensors, and solenoids.
  • Create, update, and close work orders with accurate data on labor hours, maintenance activities, and parts used.
  • Support and maintain positive working relationships with operations and other teams throughout the facility.
  • Develop and implement training plans for service technicians to improve technical skills and safety awareness.
  • Develop detailed work plans for emergency repair of critical assets to minimize downtime.
  • Utilize work order management systems (CMMS) to plan, track, and document maintenance activities.
  • Apply electrical and electronic principles, including knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), to troubleshoot and repair industrial equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment performance, reliability, and maintenance processes.
  • Work with mechanical systems including pneumatics, hydraulics, and motors to perform repairs and adjustments.
  • Perform tasks that require moving up to 49 pounds and standing or walking for shifts up to 12 hours, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience working with automated conveyors and controls.
  • 5+ years of experience applying electrical and electronic principles in an industrial environment.
  • 5+ years of experience working with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and industrial electronics.
  • 5+ years of experience performing preventive maintenance on industrial equipment.
  • 5+ years of experience reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics.
  • 5+ years of experience working with Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programs.
  • 3+ years of experience with work order management systems, such as a CMMS.
  • Strong mechanical and industrial maintenance skills, including troubleshooting and repair.
  • Experience with electrical maintenance, including three-phase power systems.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair issues on conveyance equipment and conveyor systems.
  • Ability to move up to 49 pounds and to stand and walk for up to 12-hour shifts, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher from a vocational school or college with a focus in mechanical or electrical fields.
  • 4+ years of apprenticeship or equivalent experience in mechanical or electrical disciplines.
  • Previous leadership experience overseeing technicians or maintenance teams.
  • Previous experience managing vendors and external service providers.
  • Experience with robotic maintenance and mechatronic systems.
  • Experience with continuous improvement practices in an industrial or distribution environment.
  • Proficiency using computer-based maintenance systems for work order entry and reporting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with operations and maintenance teams.

Work Environment

You work in a modern, highly automated packaging and distribution facility that operates for extended shifts, where you may stand and walk for up to 12 hours and walk between 6 and 12 miles per day. The role involves frequent movement between departments, floors, and areas of the property to perform maintenance tasks. You regularly reach above your head, kneel, squat, climb steps and ladders, and bend at the waist or knees to install and move equipment. You frequently lift and handle equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. The environment includes fluctuating temperatures and active conveyor and robotic systems. You work with industrial technologies such as conveyor systems, PLC-controlled equipment, motors, pneumatics, hydraulics, and electrical systems including three-phase power. You use computer-based systems and may spend 1–2 hours per day typing at a computer or stand-up desk. Appropriate personal protective equipment, such as masks, face shields, and composite-toed boots, is required to safely perform your duties.
