The Position

The Opportunity

You will be an expert in the hardware and software integration activities for a next generation sequencing platform. You will be a technical contributor and lead on long-term, complex and novel projects that require ingenuity, creativity and technical expertise. You are someone who does not shy away from a difficult problem, but seeks it out. You must be comfortable developing complex tools to aid in the characterization and operation of the sequencing platform using python or another rapid prototype language. You must be organized, detail oriented, and self motivated. Below are the responsibilities of this role:

  • Systems Integration & Characterization: Lead the end-to-end integration of hardware and software, focusing on the characterization of component interactions and overall sequencing platform performance.
  • Test Methodology Development: Design and implement comprehensive testing frameworks, including metrology tools, modular object-oriented software, and data management systems.
  • Performance Analysis: Execute detailed experiments to measure and optimize system parameters such as accuracy, reliability, and repeatability, including high-speed data path troubleshooting.
  • Physics-Based Problem Solving: Apply a deep understanding of system physics and assay performance to conduct root cause analysis and solve complex technical challenges.
  • Strategic Leadership: Drive cross-functional projects independently, providing creative solutions and technical guidance to engineering teams under general management.

Who You Are

  • Degree in Bio-engineering, Bio-medical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering or a related discipline with a background in instrumentation development.

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of applicable industry experience, Master’s degree with 2+ years of applicable industry experience, or Ph.D. with 1+ years of applicable industry experience.

  • Programming experience required, 2+ years of Python required, familiarity with C++ a plus.

  • Experience with sequencing system development is a plus.

  • Strong mechanical and electrical skills, electro-mechanical integration and troubleshooting skills a must.

  • Analytical skills to effectively review and analyze technical problems.

  • Understanding of DNA manipulation techniques and sequencing methodologies a plus.

  • Meticulous attention to detail and excellent written and electronic record keeping skills.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Relocation benefits are not offered for this role.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Santa Clara, CA is $83,900 - $155,700. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
