Role: Senior Infrastructure Engineer
Location: Boston, MA
Salary: $200,000 - $230,000 + 20% Bonus + Full Benefits
You’ll join as a Senior Infrastructure Engineer (operating at a principal level), stepping into a crucial seat on a small, senior‑level infrastructure team. This is a broad, hands‑on, architect‑plus‑engineer role where you’ll design, build, plan, troubleshoot, future‑proof, and generally keep the firm’s hybrid Microsoft‑heavy environment humming at a world‑class level.
This is a backfill due to a team member stepping away for personal reasons not due to performance, reorg, or chaos.
Where You Fit
- You'll be part of an 11‑person IT organization:
- 7 → User support / front‑line IT
- 4 → Infrastructure team (this role included)
- Colleagues across Boston, San Francisco, and London
- And you'll partner closely with the team lead based in Boston
- The culture here: “Think individually, act collectively.”
- You’ll get autonomy but also a team that collaborates tightly.
What You’ll Own & Lead...
Hybrid Cloud + On‑Prem Environment
- A heavy Microsoft ecosystem with growing Azure footprint:
- Azure networking, VWAN, servers, DR, and storage
- Some remaining on‑prem workloads that need to stay rock‑solid
VMware Engineering
- Build, administer, upgrade, optimize
- Expect deep engagement, not surface‑level care‑and‑feed
Network & Security Infrastructure
- Palo Alto today → migration to Meraki tomorrow (you’ll own this)
- SD‑WAN
- Firewalls, routing/switching, wireless
- Zero‑trust / MFA integration
- Backup systems + DR strategy
- Enterprise cyber‑security products & SaaS tools
Endpoints & Productivity Infrastructure
- Ensuring endpoints behave like reliable appliances—not “it works on my machine” experiments
- Exchange Online
- Azure AD / hybrid identity
Strategic Technology Planning
- You’re not just running today’s environment—you’re helping design tomorrow’s:
- CapEx planning & budgeting
- Roadmapping next‑gen infrastructure investments
- Leading projects from idea → design → execution → documentation
The Environment
- This is not a “back office, ticket‑crunching” role.
- You’ll be hands‑on while also participating in architectural discussions, compliance considerations, risk evaluation, and vendor management. Expect to be in the room when important technical decisions are made.
Work Model
- In‑office Monday–Thursday
- Friday WFH optional
- The team thrives on in‑person collaboration—whiteboards, quick problem‑solving, shared ownership, etc.
- Occasional travel to satellite offices
What Makes Someone Succeed Here
- You love being the person who really understands how infrastructure works.
- You’re comfortable with autonomy and owning outcomes.
- You enjoy variety—firewalls one day, VMware the next, Azure the day after.
- You think both tactically and strategically.
- You value a culture that pushes for excellence.
- You can communicate clearly and build trust with a high‑expectation user base.
You're likely a strong fit if you bring......
