Salary: $130,000–$150,000

Bonus: Discretionary Annual Bonus

Travel: No travel beyond commute to project site (mileage reimbursement provided)


Position Overview

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager – MEP on behalf of a leading mechanical/plumbing subcontractor supporting a long-term healthcare construction program in Rochester, NY.

This role will oversee large-scale healthcare commercial construction projects, specifically mechanical, plumbing, and MEP scopes valued at $5M+ per project. The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for financial oversight, subcontractor management, quality assurance, safety compliance, and delivering successful project outcomes aligned with contractual commitments.

This is a hybrid position, 3 onsite days at one of the Rochester Regional Health hospital project sites and 2 remote. This role requires extensive experience in healthcare MEP construction.

Project Overview

  • Large hospital infrastructure program supporting 9 hospital locations
  • 30-year agreement valued at $143.8M
  • Focused on long-term mechanical and energy-related upgrades
  • Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP), Lump Sum, and concession-based contract structures

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Execution

  • Oversee all financial, operational, and contractual aspects of assigned MEP healthcare construction projects.
  • Manage subcontractors and vendors to ensure compliance with code requirements and contract documents.
  • Lead the implementation of the Project-Specific Quality Assurance Plan.
  • Manage and mentor Assistant Project Managers.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.

Financial & Contract Management

  • Understand and manage project budgets under GMP, Lump Sum, or Concession Agreements.
  • Prepare monthly cost reviews and financial reporting using job management and accounting platforms.
  • Develop and manage the Schedule of Values for monthly client payment applications.
  • Negotiate and execute vendor purchase orders and subcontracts.
  • Oversee change management processes, including RFIs, drawing revisions, and client directives.

Safety & Site Management

  • Maintain a safe work environment through site planning, Safety Plan reviews, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) approvals, and job site walks.
  • Participate in toolbox talks and actively promote a safety-first culture.
  • Collaborate with the Project Superintendent on site utilization plans, access control, and cleanliness.

Scheduling & Risk Management

  • Maintain and update the project baseline schedule.
  • Identify and manage project risks using a Risk Log.
  • Proactively communicate and mitigate scheduling or performance issues.
  • Lead project meetings with documented agendas and meeting minutes.

Systems & Documentation

  • Oversee project setup and document control in Procore (or equivalent Job Management System).
  • Ensure proper change management and documentation procedures in alignment with company SOPs.
  • Maintain accurate reporting, contract documentation, bonds, insurance, and energy savings requirements.

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • 10+ years of project management experience working for a plumbing/mechanical subcontractor.
  • 10+ years of MEP experience on large $5M+ healthcare commercial construction projects.
  • Proven experience managing hospital or healthcare facility construction projects.
  • Experience with GMP, Lump Sum, and concession contract structures.
  • Must provide a project list with resume submission.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental),
  • OR
  • Applicable field experience in HVAC/Plumbing trades.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Trade progression background preferred (Plumber ? Foreman ? Superintendent ? Project Manager).
  • Strong financial acumen and budget management experience.
  • Experience managing Assistant Project Managers and cross-functional project teams.
  • Effective presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and client-facing capabilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and predictable outcomes.
