SUMMARY / RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking a Senior Hardware Design Engineer to design, develop, and validate next-generation satellite modem hardware. This role supports the full hardware lifecycle—from architecture and schematic design through lab bring-up, validation, and production support—within an onsite engineering lab environment in Chandler, AZ. The focus of this position is FPGA-based PCB design for SATCOM applications, including high-speed memory and SerDes interfaces, clocking and power distribution, and hands-on board bring-up and debug. The engineer will work closely with FPGA, RF, Firmware, and systems teams to deliver robust, high-performance satellite communications products supporting defense and commercial programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and document FPGA-based satellite modem hardware integrated onto PCBs.
  • Perform component selection, schematic capture, and layout reviews.
  • Support Signal Integrity (SI) and Power Integrity (PI) analysis.
  • Lead and execute board bring-up, lab validation, and hardware debugging.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support system integration and production readiness.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of professional hardware design and development experience.
  • Working knowledge of SATCOM waveforms and satellite communications systems.
  • Experience with RF and L‑band hardware design and PCB layout.
  • Hands-on soldering, rework, and board-level debugging skills.
  • Experience designing FPGA-based hardware, including high-speed digital circuits, microprocessors, and memory devices (DDR/LPDDR, Flash, SPI NOR, eMMC).
  • Hands-on experience using lab tools such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, and logic analyzers.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and technically influence other engineers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Strong background in communication systems and satellite modem architectures.
  • Experience with clock generation and distribution (PLLs, fanout buffers, differential and single-ended signaling, and termination strategies).
  • Power distribution network (PDN) design, modeling, and analysis.
  • Familiarity with SerDes interfaces, Ethernet PHYs and switches, ADCs, DACs, and mixed-signal components.
  • Active DoD security clearance or ability to obtain one.
