Senior Field Service Technician – Power Systems

Role Overview

Innovate Consulting is seeking a highly skilled Senior Field Service Technician – Power Systems to serve as the onsite technical lead for the startup, commissioning, and testing of complex electrical power distribution systems for one of our clients, a leading Texas-based power systems integrator. In this role, you will be responsible for executing high-stakes projects, making real-time technical decisions, and ensuring the safe and successful energization of critical infrastructure. This position requires an independent expert who can provide technical leadership while mentoring junior technicians to support the growth of our service organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the startup, commissioning, and acceptance testing of low and medium voltage switchgear, MCCs, and VFDs.
  • Perform advanced electrical testing, including insulation resistance, contact resistance, and relay testing, while interpreting complex one-line diagrams and control logic.
  • Act as the primary onsite lead, coordinating directly with customers, contractors, and engineering teams to ensure project alignment.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex system issues independently in the field and contribute to the continuous improvement of service standards.
  • Prepare accurate, customer-ready field service reports and provide real-time updates during system energization.
  • Guide and develop junior technicians, providing hands-on training in field operations and safety protocols.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 5–10+ years of experience in field service, commissioning, or electrical testing.
  • Strong expertise in medium and low voltage power distribution systems and advanced troubleshooting diagnostics.
  • Proven ability to lead field projects independently and manage onsite safety standards (NFPA 70E and OSHA).
  • NETA Certification (Level II–IV), experience with protective relays, or OEM training (Siemens, Eaton, Schneider, ABB) is highly desirable.
  • A Journeyman or Master Electrician license is a significant plus.

Physical Requirements & Travel

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in various industrial environments, including climbing and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites as required, including overnight stays for project execution.
