Position Overview

International Motors is seeking a highly skilled Senior Controls Engineer to play a critical role in supporting and advancing our T14 Transmission and S13 Engine Assembly Line operations. This role serves as a technical resource and key liaison between engineering, maintenance, and production teams, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing performance.

Senior Controls Engineer – Powertrain Manufacturing

This role offers a strong foundation for a Controls Engineer with 1–3 years of experience to grow within a high‑volume powertrain manufacturing environment, supporting transmission and engine assembly operations. You will provide hands‑on, day‑to‑day production support while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across controls, automation, and electrical systems.

The position focuses on supporting the design, modification, optimization, and troubleshooting of PLC‑ and HMI‑based control systems, primarily using platforms such as Allen‑Bradley / Rockwell Automation, along with related motion, safety, and industrial networking components. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, you’ll help diagnose equipment and process issues, support change implementation, and assist with maintaining stable, repeatable production processes for critical powertrain components.

You’ll collaborate closely with controls engineers, maintenance technicians, process engineers, and production teams to resolve technical issues, reduce downtime, and improve throughput on automated assembly lines. This role is ideal for an engineer eager to deepen PLC programming skills, build system‑level understanding, and develop the communication and problem‑solving capabilities required in a fast‑paced, technically demanding manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and execution of reliability and uptime initiatives by troubleshooting controls and equipment issues that affect manufacturing performance.
  • Partner with controls, maintenance, and production teams to diagnose and resolve line issues, helping keep operations running safely and efficiently.
  • Assist in evaluating and selecting manufacturing equipment, supporting decisions that balance performance, reliability, and cost.
  • Participate in the installation, commissioning, modification, and maintenance of manufacturing equipment and automation systems under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, including OEM manuals, software/firmware updates, safety notices, and recommended improvements.
  • Analyze basic equipment performance data to help identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for process and reliability improvements.
  • Provide technical support to maintenance and process engineering teams, contributing to faster issue resolution and improved system understanding.
  • Build technical depth through knowledge sharing, learning from experienced engineers while gradually supporting peers and technicians as skills develop.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 1 year of product manufacturing experience

OR

  • Master's degree and no experience

OR

  • At least 3 years of product manufacturing experience

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Desired Skills

  • Hands-on experience with Fanuc Robotics and Siemens PLCs.
  • Proficiency with industrial vision systems, including Fanuc iRVision, Keyence, and Cognex.
  • Experience configuring, modifying, and maintaining SQL databases.
  • Working knowledge of the Ignition SCADA platform.
  • Prior experience with MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) controls and integration.
  • Experience working with AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and install medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems.
