About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Controls Engineer to join our Albuquerque, NM team. This is a leadership role responsible for delivering automation systems across a wide range of industries. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in PLC, DCS, HMI, and SCADA platforms, along with the ability to lead teams, interact directly with customers, and deliver high-quality automation solutions from concept through commissioning.

This position plays a key role in building long-term customer partnerships and securing repeat business through technical excellence and effective project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, implementation, testing, commissioning, and qualification of industrial automation systems
  • Interact directly with customers to gather requirements and develop system specifications
  • Act as technical lead for projects, guiding engineers and technicians
  • Develop control system architectures and select appropriate hardware and software components
  • Program PLCs, DCS, RTUs, and related controllers using Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Sequential Function Chart, and similar languages
  • Design and configure HMI/SCADA systems and develop databases for historical data archiving and visualization
  • Implement industrial networking solutions using protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet, and Modbus
  • Develop electrical schematics including power distribution (up to 480VAC), control panels, and associated documentation
  • Support field commissioning and troubleshoot field devices and equipment
  • Lead or support project management activities, including:
  • Project execution planning
  • Budgeting and financial tracking
  • Scheduling and task prioritization
  • Risk identification and issue resolution
  • Status reporting and stakeholder communication
  • Oversee projects up to $1M and ensure overall project profitability
  • Mentor and develop less experienced engineers
  • Act as Project Manager on smaller projects when required

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science
  • 10+ years of experience as a Controls Engineer
  • Strong experience with PLC hardware and software platforms (Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Modicon)
  • Strong experience with HMI/SCADA platforms such as:
  • ICONICS Genesis64
  • Wonderware ArchestrA System Platform
  • GE CIMPLICITY / iFIX
  • Rockwell FactoryTalk View
  • Schneider and Siemens platforms
  • Experience with DCS platforms such as Emerson DeltaV or similar
  • Experience designing and implementing industrial networking solutions (fiber, wired, wireless)
  • Proficiency with SQL and familiarity with .NET, APIs, Power BI, and Grafana
  • Experience with AutoCAD (preferred)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Preferred Experience

  • Rockwell Automation and GE CIMPLICITY experience
  • Web-based and third-party data integrations for monitoring and diagnostics
  • Developing design standards for graphics, alarming, and system scale-up
  • Experience in one or more of the following industries:
