Job Role Overview
As a Lead Microsoft Infrastructure & Migration Engineer, you will be the technical anchor for critical infrastructure transformation, migration, and deployment projects. Acting as a subject matter expert, you will bridge the gap between legacy on-premises environments and modern cloud workspaces. You will drive Active Directory mergers and divestitures, execute complex tenant-to-tenant migrations, and lead greenfield deployments and side-by-side upgrades across Windows Server, SQL, and Microsoft 365 ecosystems.
This role requires a hands-on technical leader who can architect solutions, troubleshoot deep technical issues, and communicate effectively with global stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Deployment & Modernization: Lead Windows Server greenfield deployments and complex side-by-side (SxS) upgrades to modernize aging infrastructure.
- M&A Migration Leadership: Architect and execute Active Directory mergers, divestitures, cross-forest migrations, and complex M365 Tenant-to-Tenant (T2T) migrations.
- Cloud & Workspace Provisioning: Set up, configure, and manage Microsoft 365 tenants end-to-end, including modern endpoint management and virtualized desktop environments.
- Database Infrastructure: Handle the deployment, clustering, and side-by-side upgrading of SQL Server environments to ensure high availability and performance.
- Automation & Tooling: Leverage PowerShell extensively to automate redundant tasks, migration workflows, and reporting. Evaluate and utilize industry-leading third-party migration tools to streamline complex data and identity moves.
Technical Requirements (Must-Have Skills)
1. Core Windows Server & Identity Infrastructure
- OS Deployments: Proven experience with Windows Server Greenfield deployments and Side-by-Side (SxS) upgrades.
- Core Services: In-depth, hands-on expertise configuring and troubleshooting DNS, DHCP, and Windows File Servers.
- Identity & Security: Deep architectural knowledge of Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), Certificate Server (PKI), Network Policy Server (NPS), and Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS).
- Compute & High Availability: Extensive experience managing Hyper-V environments and configuring Windows Server Failover Clustering.
2. Microsoft 365 & Modern Workplace
- Tenant Management: Hands-on experience setting up Microsoft 365 tenants end-to-end.
- Collaboration & Compliance: Deep knowledge of Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, and setting up Microsoft Purview for compliance and data governance.
- Identity & Access: Expertise in Azure AD (Entra ID) configuration, specifically designing and implementing robust Conditional Access policies.
- Endpoint & Virtualization: Proven track record of deploying and managing Microsoft VDI, Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Microsoft Intune, and Windows 365 (Cloud PC).
3. SQL Server Infrastructure
- Setup & Upgrades: Experience setting up SQL Server environments and executing SQL database side-by-side upgrades.
- High Availability: Hands-on experience configuring and maintaining SQL in a clustered environment (Always On Failover Cluster Instances / Availability Groups).
4. Migrations & Automation
- Complex Migrations: Demonstrated experience architecting and executing Cross-Forest Migrations and Tenant-to-Tenant (T2T) migrations.
- M&A Scenarios: Strong background in navigating the technical complexities of Active Directory Mergers and Divestitures.
- Scripting: Advanced proficiency in PowerShell scripting for infrastructure automation and migration tasks.
- Migration Tooling: Working knowledge of industry-leading migration tools (e.g., Quest, BitTitan, AvePoint, Sharegate).
