Senior Component Engineer

In this role, you will serve as a Senior Component Engineer specializing in passive, discrete, and logic components, with a primary focus on capacitors and resistors. You will play a critical role that supports design engineering in component selections ensuring robust power delivery and signal integrity for next-generation networking systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategy & Governance: Define and drive technical strategy, including AVL/AML governance for passive components across Cisco's portfolio.

• Reliability & Qualification: Establish reliability targets and lead environmental qualification efforts (e.g., THB, HTOL) to mitigate risks in advanced packaging.

• Supplier Readiness: Assess end-to-end manufacturing processes and conduct technical audits to ensure supplier capability and readiness.

• Resilience & Lifecycle Management: Evaluate supply chain risks and lead mitigation strategies related to component lifecycle and availability.

• Failure Analysis: Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and drive systemic quality improvements across factory and field incidents.

• Technical Leadership: Serve as the primary technical expert for complex issues, guiding cross-functional teams and influencing technology roadmaps.

Component Engineering (CE) Responsibilities

Your work will align with core Component Engineering functions, including:

Commodity strategy development and supplier benchmarking

Supplier selection, site qualification, and audits

Component qualification and regulatory compliance

Factory quality issue resolution, field failure analysis, and reliability/risk assessment

Who You'll Work With

You will be part of the Component Quality & Technology (CQT) organization within Global Supply Chain. You will collaborate closely with:

Cisco Business Units and Hardware Design Engineering teams

External component suppliers

Cross-functional supply chain and data analytics teams to solve complex hardware challenges

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field (Master's preferred)

Proven experience in capacitor and/or resistor component engineering, quality, or reliability within networking, server, or high-reliability electronics industries

Technical Expertise

Strong understanding of capacitor and/or resistor technologies and applications

Experience leading failure analysis and root cause investigations

Hands-on experience with accelerated stress testing or ownership of reliability qualification programs

Preferred Qualifications

Technical Skills

Application-level knowledge of component behavior and manufacturing processes (e.g., material purity, plating, assembly)

Familiarity with industry standards and environmental compliance requirements

Communication & Leadership

Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to engineering teams and executive stakeholders

Experience leading technical engagements with global suppliers

Quality & Risk Management

Experience with supplier transfers, technical audits, and driving systemic quality improvements (e.g., CAPA)

Proficiency in risk analysis and field reliability modeling
