The Office of Communications & Engagement is looking for a highly skilled Senior Graphic Designer to help shape and advance how we visually communicate with the Prince William County community.

About This Role:This is more than a production role, it’s an opportunity for a designer who thinks strategically, contributes ideas and leads through design. You’re someone who can move fluidly from concept to execution, ask the right questions and understand that strong design starts with clarity of purpose.


In this role, you’ll collaborate with communications staff and county staff and leadership to translate complex information into clear, compelling and visually engaging stories. From polished reports and presentations to digital campaigns and brand-forward graphics, your work will play a key role in how residents experience and connect with county services and programs.


You’ll join a team that values strong design, thoughtful communication and creative collaboration and is continuing to refine, strengthen and expand its visual presence. We’re looking for a designer who brings both craft and ownership, delivering high-quality work on tight timelines, contributing to creative direction, and consistently moving ideas forward.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or G.E.Dand 5 years of experience in graphic design, print publications, digital and written communications.

Preferences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications or a related field
  • 7 years of experience in graphic design, print publications, digital and written communications.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Demonstrated experience designing for both print and digital platforms
  • Experience translating complex or technical information into clear, accessible visual content
  • Strong understanding of design layout, typography, color and visual hierarchy
  • Familiarity with accessibility best practices (WCAG) for digital and document design
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to evolving priorities
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Experience developing or maintaining brand standards across a large organization
  • Experience designing for government, public sector, or complex organizations with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience mentoring junior designers or interns

Additional Requirement:

  • Portfolio required. Portfolio must demonstrate advanced, professional-level use of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) across both print and digital applications, including examples of strategic, concept-driven work.

Work Schedule:

  • Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in office
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.


Starting Salary Range:$70,921 - $97,968
