Job Title: Senior Structural / Civil Engineer

Location: New York, NY 10003

Contract Duration: 1-year contract to start, with potential for conversion based on performance


Pay Rate: $55/ - $65/hr (with flexibility based on experience)


Work Schedule: Hybrid; 3 days onsite Tuesday through Thursday

Hours: 8:00 AM - 4:45 PM or 7:00 AM - 3:45 PM (8-hour workday)


Travel: Local site travel as needed; travel may vary from none for a month to multiple times per week. When travel is required, the expectation is to report to 4 Irving Place first and then travel to the site. Travel may include riding with a senior engineer.


Interview Process: 1 technical interview, with possible second panel/leadership interview


Position Overview

Seeking a Senior Structural / Civil Engineer to support project work involving commercial buildings, high-rise buildings, and field-based structural issues. This individual will serve in a role similar to an internal hire, but in a contract capacity.


The engineer will support renovation work, capital projects, and operations and maintenance initiatives across facilities, buildings, and service centers. This role requires strong technical engineering capability, field responsiveness, and the ability to assess and resolve a wide variety of structural issues.


Key Responsibilities

  • Engineer and design projects supporting Capital and Operations & Maintenance budgets for facilities, including buildings and yards of various service centers and commercial buildings
  • Prepare and/or direct the preparation of design packages, including specifications and drawings
  • Review contractor shop drawings
  • Perform cost-benefit analyses and conceptual studies to determine optimal designs
  • Prepare or direct the preparation of budgets and appropriation requests for specific projects
  • Support facility project design, operational and maintenance needs, root cause investigations, and system inspections
  • Respond to structural issues in the field, including site assessments such as wall cracks and other building-related concerns
  • Support engineers on renovation work involving structural systems and equipment-related assessments
  • Evaluate roof capacity and related structural requirements for HVAC and other equipment installations
  • Lead or support work at service centers and on other structural engineering issues as assigned
  • Review engineering records and perform detailed calculations
  • Work closely with in-house designers, consulting engineers, hiring manager, engineers, and support teams


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Master’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering preferred
  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required
  • Civil background with drainage experience preferred
  • Structural background with steel and superstructure experience preferred
  • Strong preference for candidates with both civil and structural experience
  • Proven record of civil/structural engineering accomplishments
  • Strong technical knowledge in the design of steel, concrete, and masonry structures
  • Knowledge of applicable codes including AISC, ACI, ASCE, NYC Building Code, and related standards
  • Experience providing civil/structural engineering support for commercial building and yard systems
  • Ability to work directly with both in-house designers and external consulting engineers
  • Candidates should have experience doing the engineering work directly, including reviewing records and performing detailed calculations
  • Background with Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) firms is preferred; Experience with public clients is not preferred
