This is a full-time hybrid position. The incumbent must live within a reasonable driving distance of a Mayo Clinic location including Phoenix, Arizona; Jacksonville, Florida; or Rochester, Minnesota.
The Senior Business Analyst will join the Mayo Clinic Referral Coordination Office (MCRCO), an office formed through the integration of the Office of Practice Specialty Collaborations and Contracts (OPSCC) and the Referring Provider Office (RPO). MCRCO’s purpose is to simplify and strengthen the referral experience—particularly for patients with serious or complex conditions requiring advanced coordination and expertise. This role will play a key part in advancing Mayo Clinic’s strategic priorities, including transforming the referring provider and patient experience, enabling differentiated practice models, delivering platform capabilities, and accelerating the adoption of AI and automation.
Provides business analysis services at a local, institutional or enterprise level. Understands and considers both the business and the technical needs of all customers with the goal of providing a quality product or process that meets the business objectives. Examines costs, benefits and risks associated with the proposed investment/project and recommends alternatives for solutions throughout the business life cycle. Collaborate with stakeholders and users to synthesize, articulate and document business objectives and requirements by applying system and analytical thinking methodology and discipline. Proficient understanding of business strategy and business planning principles and applies to project work (areas may include but not limited to value proposition, mission/strategy, goals/objectives, technology assessments, funding, and management/administration). Contributes to project charter and plans, work assignments, target dates, and other aspects of assigned projects. Applies systems engineering methodologies and discipline throughout the project lifecycle. Performs data analysis, defines and documents business requirements, supports translation to functional specifications early in the development cycle, and concludes with design synthesis and system validation while considering the complete system. Assists project leaders in coordinating deployment of deliverables. Demonstrates system and analytical thinking capability. Progressive knowledge and demonstrated use of business analysis methodologies and tools. Maintains effective correspondence and in-person communication. Builds credibility, rapport and partners with others to understand their needs and provides conflict resolution, problem solving, and ability to drive consensus. Works in partnership with stakeholders to develop a solid knowledge base of business needs. May manage projects of mid-level complexity, which could include subcomponents of larger-scale projects as directed by project leaders.
Primary Responsibilities
Strategy, Analysis, and Decision Support
Evaluate costs, benefits, and risks of proposed investments and projects, recommending effective solutions throughout the business lifecycle. Develop and deliver executive-level reporting, performance measurement frameworks, and predictive analytics to inform business growth, demand planning, and operational decision-making. Apply strong analytical, creative, and strategic thinking to connect analytics, automation, and process improvement initiatives to measurable outcomes.
Business Analysis and Systems Thinking
Collaborate with stakeholders and end users to define, document, and align on business objectives and requirements using systems thinking and analytical methodologies. Perform data analysis and translate business needs into functional specifications, supporting solution design, validation, and end-to-end process optimization. Apply systems engineering methodologies and discipline throughout the project lifecycle.
Operational Improvement, Automation, and AI
Identify, design, and implement opportunities to leverage automation, AI, and advanced analytics to improve efficiency, streamline workflows, and enhance analytical capabilities. Utilize knowledge of patient access and referral operations, including key data sources such as Epic, to drive insights and operational improvements.
Project Execution and Delivery
Contribute to project charters, plans, timelines, and key deliverables, and support coordination of deployment and implementation. Manage or support projects of moderate complexity, including components of larger enterprise initiatives.
Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
Build strong relationships with stakeholders to understand business needs, facilitate collaboration, resolve conflicts, and drive alignment and consensus. Maintain clear and effective communication, including executive-level presentations and storytelling.
Bachelor's and 6 years' experience in business analysis, business administration, engineering, information science, health or science-related field OR Master’s and 2 years' experience in business analysis, business administration, engineering, information science, health or science-related field.
CBAP Certified Business Analysis Professional, CCBA Certification of Competency in Business Analysis, or PMI-PBA Professional in Business Analysis preferred.
