Senior Backend Engineer (Data Systems)
New York City (In-Office) | Full-Time | $200k–$300k Base + Bonus
About the Company
We’re partnered with a high-performing, crypto-native trading and technology firm operating at the intersection of quantitative trading, market-making, and DeFi infrastructure. The team is founder-led, highly technical, and executes significant trading volume across both centralized and decentralized markets.
Engineering sits at the core of the business - data quality and system reliability directly impact trading performance and risk decisions. The team is lean, fast-moving, and focused on solving complex, real-world problems across distributed systems and financial infrastructure.
The Role
This is a high-impact backend engineering role focused on building a unified data ingestion platform that powers trading, risk, and analytics systems.
You’ll design and own systems that ingest, normalize, and serve both real-time and historical data across blockchain networks and centralized exchanges. This is a systems-first role with a strong emphasis on performance, reliability, and scalability.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design and build a unified data ingestion platform across on-chain and off-chain sources
- Develop real-time streaming pipelines and historical backfill systems
- Integrate with blockchain networks (EVM/SVM) and centralized exchange APIs
- Build scalable data storage solutions (data warehouse / time-series systems)
- Ensure system reliability, observability, and data integrity across pipelines
- Work cross-functionally with trading, quant, and operations teams
What They’re Looking For
- Strong backend engineering experience, ideally with Rust or other systems-level languages
- Experience building high-throughput, low-latency data pipelines
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures, streaming vs polling systems
- Experience with databases like PostgreSQL or ClickHouse (time-series a plus)
- Exposure to financial systems, trading environments, or real-time data systems
- Ability to design for failure modes, rate limits, and external dependencies
Nice to Have
- Experience working with blockchain data (EVM, Solana, etc.)
- Familiarity with exchange APIs or trading systems
- Background in crypto, fintech, or data-intensive environments
- Experience building data warehouse or lake architectures
Why This Role
- Direct impact on systems that drive trading and revenue
- Work on genuinely complex engineering challenges (real-time + historical data at scale)
- Small, high-caliber team with strong ownership and autonomy
- Competitive compensation + strong benefits
