Company Description
Buxbaum HCS is seeking a Senior Associate, Outsourced Accounting & Advisory to join our growing team of accounting and finance professionals. In this role, you will support privately owned, middle-market client organizations across monthly close, financial reporting, accounting operations, and management reporting workstreams. You will work across multiple client engagements, partner closely with Controllers, CFOs, and client leadership teams, and help translate financial data into clear business insight. This is a hands-on, client-facing role for someone who is technically strong in Excel, manipulating and analyzing large data sets, experienced in accounting and finance month-end close processes, and able to connect the numbers to the broader business context.
Key Responsibilities
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, flux analysis, and close calendar management
- Prepare and maintain financial reporting packages, management dashboards, and supporting schedules for client leadership teams
- Build, update, and review Excel-based analyses, including budget-to-actual reporting, revenue and margin schedules, working capital analyses, cash flow support, and operational KPI reporting
- Analyze financial results and communicate key trends, risks, and business drivers in a clear and practical manner for both finance and non-finance stakeholders
- Identify opportunities to improve close processes, reconciliations, reporting cadence, internal controls, and overall finance function effectiveness
- Work within client accounting and ERP systems such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms
- Support Buxbaum leadership on fractional Controller, fractional CFO, audit readiness, transaction readiness, M&A diligence, and special project work as needed
- Manage assigned workstreams across multiple client engagements, balancing timelines, responsiveness, accuracy, and client service expectations
- Represent Buxbaum HCS with professionalism in client-facing settings, including onsite work at client locations when engagement needs require it
Qualifications
- 4+ years of progressive accounting, finance, or advisory experience, ideally including public accounting, consulting, outsourced accounting, or middle-market company experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- Strong working knowledge of month-end close, account reconciliations, journal entries, financial statement preparation, and GAAP-based accounting concepts
- Demonstrated proficiency using AI-enabled tools, including Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or similar platforms, to improve the efficiency and quality of accounting and finance workflows, including Excel analysis, account reconciliations, variance analysis, financial reporting, research, documentation, and process improvement; must exercise sound judgment in validating AI-assisted outputs and protecting confidential client information
- Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to build and maintain complex workbooks, use lookups, pivot tables, data validation, conditional logic, and structured financial analysis
- Strong business acumen with the ability to understand operational drivers, identify trends, and explain what the numbers mean in a business context
- Experience preparing financial reporting packages, variance analysis, management reports, or KPI dashboards for business leaders
- Hands-on experience with one or more accounting or ERP systems such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, or equivalent platforms
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present findings clearly and professionally to clients, internal teams, and senior stakeholders
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven client service environment
- CPA, public accounting background, or prior client-service/advisory experience preferred but not required
Recruiting Process
- Candidates should expect a multi-step interview process that includes conversations with members of the Buxbaum HCS leadership team
- As part of the process, selected candidates will complete a case study interview and present their analysis to Buxbaum HCS leadership
- The case study is designed to evaluate technical accounting and finance judgment, Excel proficiency, business acumen, communication style, and ability to synthesize financial information into practical recommendations
Salary & Benefits
The base salary for this position ranges from $120,000 to $140,000 per year, depending on various factors, including education, experience, technical skill set, and client-service readiness. In addition to competitive pay, Buxbaum offers a discretionary bonus program based on individual and firm performance.
