High Level Accountant

Job Description

The Sr Accountant plays a key role in the monthly close process, financial reporting, and analysis to ensure accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant financial information. This position prepares journal entries and reconciliations, analyzes financial results, supports budgeting and forecasting, and partners with cross-functional teams to provide insight and drive process improvements. The role also supports internal and external audits and contributes to complex accounting-related projects within a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and assist in the completion of the monthly accounting close process, ensuring that all journal entries for assigned areas are timely, accurate, and in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Prepare assigned monthly journal entries and account reconciliations in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring that all entries are supported with appropriate documentation.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc accounting analyses and reports to support the preparation of internal and external financial information and disclosures.
  • Review and analyze financial statements, including month-end income statements and balance sheets, to identify discrepancies, trends, and unusual items, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Conduct financial analyses by reviewing balance sheet and income statement accounts for significant, unusual, or unexpected variances versus forecast and prior periods.
  • Research variances to identify root causes and communicate the results of analyses clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to accounting and finance leadership.
  • Coordinate and communicate accounting matters with other functions and departments to ensure alignment and accurate financial reporting.
  • Support finance teams and other groups with budgeting and forecasting processes, including preparation of supporting analyses and schedules.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing requested documentation, explanations, and analyses, and help ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Prepare a variety of financial reports, which may include profit and loss statements, balance sheets, depreciation schedules, cash flow reports, debtor and creditor lists, repayment schedules, and regulatory reports and filings.
  • Complete or assist with ad hoc projects, data analysis requests, and management reporting for multiple levels of management.
  • Lead projects or key components of large or complex accounting-related projects, ensuring deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
  • Identify, recommend, and help implement opportunities for process improvement within areas of responsibility to increase efficiency, accuracy, and control.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of general accounting experience, preferably within the consumer-packaged goods industry.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and its application in day-to-day accounting activities and financial reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with general ledger accounting, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Proven experience with month-end close processes and related reporting requirements.
  • Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements, including income statements and balance sheets.
  • Proficiency in performing bank reconciliations and resolving reconciling items.
  • Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities within deadlines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in the dairy or broader food and beverage sector is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Work Environment

The High Level Accountant works as part of a close-knit team of four and reports into the controllership function. The position follows a hybrid work model, with Wednesdays designated as an in-office day and two additional in-office days determined by each team’s schedule, allowing for flexibility as personal needs arise. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Minneapolis, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $48.00/hr.
