Description

The Stephens College Campus Safety & Security Officer is a vital member of the Campus Safety team, entrusted with maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position is responsible for conducting routine and directed patrols of campus grounds, responding to security incidents and emergencies, and enforcing college policies and safety protocols in support of a thriving campus community. The Campus Safety & Security Officer upholds the safety and well-being of all members of the college community in alignment with institutional values and public safety best practices.


Schedule:

Safety & Security Officers’ work set, non-rotating schedules across our 24/7/365 operation. Currently, officers work 5 eight-hour shifts covering Days, Swing, and Overnight. Some schedule flexibility may be required based on the needs of the College.

Duties/Responsibilities:

I. Campus Patrol and Safety Monitoring:

  • Proactively patrols campus property-deters criminal activity and maintains visibility.
  • Observes and monitors campus conditions.
  • Verifies the security of all campus buildings to include dorms by consistent walk-throughs.
  • Monitors AEDs, vehicle registration, fire extinguishers, elevator safety calls.

II. Investigations and Enforcement:

  • Enforces campus parking rules and regulations.
  • Enforces and documents any violations of the college’s policies, rules and regulations.
  • Investigate and document any abnormal activity.

III. Campus Services:

  • Provides key services, safety escorts, jump starts and assistance to students, staff, faculty, and visitors.
  • Support victims of crime by documenting criminal incidents and referring to the appropriate law enforcement agency.
  • Maintains lost and found property.

IV. Collaboration Efforts:

  • Supports all institutional departments including Student Experience and Facilities, to ensure a coordinated approach to campus safety and security.
  • Collaborate with local law enforcement and external agencies to support crime prevention initiatives, enhance campus safety awareness, and coordinate resources when needed.

V. Training and Development:

  • Participate in ongoing training of security best practices, emergency response procedures, first aid, defense tactics, OC, baton, handcuffing, campus policies, and Campus Safety & Security protocols.
  • Attend required training as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, problem solving, and customer service skills
  • Ability to demonstrate a calm and composed demeanor while deescalating high-stress situations
  • Proficiency in using security equipment and technology to include CCTV cameras, two-way radios, and alarm systems
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to operate a college vehicle. Must meet and maintain Stephens Driver Qualification and Vehicle Policy. Must be able to acquire a Missouri Class E Driver’s License. (Stephens College funded.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Prior experience in security, law enforcement, emergency management or a related field
  • Experience working in higher education

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk, stand, and lift moderate weights (minimum of 50 lbs.)
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions
  • Availability for shift work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
