Job Title: Senior P6 Outage Scheduler
Job Description
This Senior, hands-on P6 scheduling role supports a major power generation outage project near Lake Anna, VA. You will own the schedule from late-stage pre-outage planning through execution of two major outages, ensuring the plan is accurate, realistic, and fully aligned with field conditions. You will work closely with construction leadership, actively participate in meetings, and translate complex outage plans into an executable Primavera P6 schedule for a fixed-price, high-risk environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development, refinement, and ownership of the Primavera P6 schedule for a major power generation outage project from pre-outage planning through outage execution.
- Build, update, maintain, and defend detailed outage schedules, ensuring they accurately reflect scope, sequencing, and field realities.
- Create and manage schedule logic, fragnets, critical path, and re-baselines to support changing conditions and project milestones.
- Integrate subcontractor schedules into the master schedule and rigorously validate schedule quality and integrity.
- Translate real-world field progress into accurate schedule updates, incorporating actuals, constraints, and evolving work plans.
- Support and guide pre-outage planning efforts, helping finalize remaining schedule work and identifying risks and opportunities.
- Apply a deep understanding of outage sequencing, work density, and resource loading to create realistic and achievable plans.
- Support long-duration outages (80+ days) by continuously monitoring schedule performance and adjusting as needed.
- Work effectively within a nuclear or power generation environment, respecting compliance, badging, security, and controlled work practices.
- Run and facilitate schedule review meetings with superintendents and construction leadership, capturing discussions and action items.
- Document meeting notes and convert them into clear, executable schedule activities and logic ties.
- Confidently challenge assumptions and proposed plans when they do not align with realistic field execution or schedule constraints.
- Act as a trusted scheduling expert, providing insight and guidance rather than simply updating schedule bars.
- Support major outage scopes such as condenser rebuilds and major component replacements within the schedule.
- Apply earned value management principles, including CPI, SPI, and forecasting, to monitor schedule and performance trends.
- Collaborate with EPC and site teams to ensure alignment between engineering, procurement, and construction activities.
- Maintain high visibility in the field, regularly engaging with construction teams to validate progress and constraints.
- Support extended work hours and high-intensity periods during outages, including significant overtime, to keep the schedule current and accurate.
Essential Skills
- 8+ years of scheduling and/or project controls experience preferred, with a strong track record in complex projects.
- Expert-level Primavera P6 scheduling experience, ideally within nuclear or power generation outage environments.
- Hands-on experience building, updating, maintaining, and defending detailed project schedules.
- Proficiency in creating and managing schedule logic, fragnets, critical path, and re-baselines.
- Experience supporting pre-outage planning through full outage execution, including long-duration outages of 80+ days.
- Understanding of outage sequencing, work density, and resource loading in a power generation context.
- Familiarity with nuclear compliance, badging, security, and controlled work environments.
- Ability to quickly adapt to fixed-price, high-risk schedules with minimal ramp-up time.
- Strong field-facing communication skills, including the ability to run schedule review meetings with construction teams.
- Ability to capture meeting notes and convert them into clear, executable schedules.
- Confidence to challenge unrealistic assumptions and advocate for realistic, achievable plans.
- Experience with earned value management concepts such as CPI, SPI, and forecasting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to pass background screening and obtain site badging.
- Willingness to work extended hours and significant overtime during outage periods.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in nuclear power plant or power generation outage scheduling.
- background in construction or engineering, particularly in EPC or large industrial projects, strongly preferred.
- Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred but not mandatory.
- Experience supporting condenser rebuilds and major component replacement projects.
- Demonstrated ability to operate as a trusted advisor to construction leadership, not just a technical scheduler.
- Comfort working in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments with high visibility and critical project outcomes.
Work Environment
This role is based on-site at a power generation facility near Lake Anna, VA, specifically at the North Anna Power Plant. You will work from a dedicated on-site office complex while maintaining a strong presence in the field with regular interaction with construction and outage teams. The position is highly field-integrated, requiring frequent coordination with site personnel to validate progress and constraints. During pre-outage periods, the typical schedule is five 10-hour days per week. During outage periods, you will work extended hours with significant overtime, potentially up to approximately 72 hours per week, plus additional overtime opportunities during normal periods. The environment is fast-paced and deadline-driven, with a strong focus on safety, nuclear compliance, and secure, controlled work areas. The role offers per diem support, substantial overtime earning potential, and the opportunity to work closely with experienced outage and construction professionals on a high-impact, visible project.
*Fully on site, daily per diem provided!*
