Make a statewide impact protecting one of our most essential resources—safe drinking water. In this dynamic role, you’ll lead regional coordination of Safe Drinking Water Program activities, working directly with public water system owners, government agencies, and communities to ensure compliance with critical health regulations. From conducting fieldwork and inspections to educating stakeholders and guiding water safety practices, no two days are the same. Possession of a current Louisiana Sanitarian's license plus one of the following:

Three years of experience as a sanitarian; OR

A master's degree in public health, food science, dairy science, environmental or sanitary science, or one of the physical or biological sciences plus two years of experience as a sanitarian.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in the Molluscan Shellfish program require that applicants complete the Louisiana Boating Education program and be certified by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.Job Duties:
  • Plans, schedules, and performs water sample collection for drinking water contaminants, including Chemical Phase 25s, Disinfection By-Products (total trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids), and Bacteriological at public water system sources, treatment facilities, and distribution systems sites within required monitoring periods
  • Plans, schedules, and performs Class I Surveys of public water systems within the required inspection compliance period
  • Provides technical assistance to public water systems by interpreting and explaining routine bacteriological and chemical monitoring report data in consultation with laboratory staff, Safe Drinking Water Program staff, and Regional Safe Drinking Water Program staff.
