Safety Specialist
About the Role
We are seeking a Safety Specialist to support the development and maintenance of a safe, compliant, and proactive workplace safety culture. This role will work closely with HSE leadership to help prevent injuries and illnesses, support regulatory compliance, conduct safety inspections, track training, and assist with the implementation of safety programs across field and office environments.
The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of an organization. This position requires professionalism, organization, and the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation and maintenance of HSE policies, procedures, programs, and initiatives.
- Maintain contractor and client HSE compliance portals to support contractual and regulatory requirements.
- Track and coordinate DOT and non-DOT drug and alcohol testing, background screenings, and motor vehicle record checks.
- Assist with incident, near-miss, and hazard investigations to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Prepare and distribute HSE reports, metrics, findings, and compliance updates to internal stakeholders.
- Maintain safety training records and ensure required employee training is completed and properly documented.
- Perform and document safety inspections, worksite audits, incident reports, hazard observations, near-miss reports, and on-site training sessions.
- Assist with internal and external safety audits and support corrective action plans for any non-conformities.
- Promote employee participation in safety programs, continuous improvement efforts, and stop-work authority initiatives.
- Stay current on applicable workplace safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
- Support regional fleet safety efforts by reviewing telematics, driver, vehicle, and sensor data to identify risks and improve safety performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Occupational Safety, HSE, Environmental Health and Safety, or a related field preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience in occupational safety, HSE, field safety, or a related environment preferred.
- Knowledge of workplace safety regulations and standards, including OSHA and DOT, preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English required.
- Spanish language skills are a plus.
- Experience with HSE management systems, safety reporting platforms, or compliance tracking tools preferred.
- Familiarity with fleet telematics, vehicle tracking systems, or driver safety platforms preferred.
- Ability to work independently and communicate professionally with employees, managers, clients, and external partners.
