Job Title: Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist

Job Summary

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist supports the development, implementation, and enforcement of workplace safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA and other applicable regulations. This role plays a key part in promoting a strong safety culture by coordinating training, conducting audits and inspections, supporting emergency preparedness, and assisting with incident reporting and corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize and facilitate monthly Executive Safety Committee meetings
  • Conduct routine audits of facility personnel to ensure compliance with OSHA safety policies and procedures
  • Assess organizational safety training needs and coordinate or deliver appropriate training programs
  • Deliver Emergency Response Team (ERT) training for on-site medical and emergency situations
  • Supervise on-site safety contractors, including oversight of documentation, permits, and compliance requirements
  • Serve as backup support for the Environmental Technician role, as needed
  • Liaise with alarm service providers for security, fire, and gas systems; coordinate repairs and system updates
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to calibrate, exchange, troubleshoot, and monitor gas detection systems
  • Inspect, maintain, and replenish safety and emergency response equipment to ensure operational readiness
  • Develop, implement, and maintain OSHA-compliant safety policies and programs
  • Provide safety guidance, coaching, and leadership to employees at all levels
  • Identify safety process gaps or inefficiencies and recommend corrective actions
  • Monitor employee compliance with safety rules, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Investigate incidents and prepare reports related to workplace injuries, near misses, and safety violations
  • Maintain OSHA logs and generate OSHA 300 and related reports
  • Conduct auditory testing and support hearing conservation and hearing deficit programs

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience in an EHS Specialist, Safety Assistant, or similar role
  • Minimum of two (2) years of safety management experience or equivalent on-the-job safety training
  • In-depth knowledge of hazardous materials and safe handling practices
  • Experience generating and maintaining OSHA 300 logs and related documentation
  • Ability to draft health and safety policies and procedures
  • Strong analytical skills with experience reporting safety statistics
  • Completion of OSHA 2264 (Permit-Required Confined Space) and OSHA 2045 (Machinery & Machine Guarding Standards)
  • CPR certification (required)
  • Occupational Health & Safety certification preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Troutdale, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
