Summary:
This position is responsible for delivering a range of outpatient care services and supporting clinical workflows to ensure efficient and high-quality patient experiences. Key responsibilities include:•Preparing patients for clinic visits by completing intake documentation, recording vital signs, measuring height and weight, and rooming patients.•Assisting with examinations, treatments and procedures.•Collecting laboratory specimens and performing point-of-care testing.•Administering designated immunization/vaccines and medications under physician delegation.In addition to clinical duties, this role may also support administrative functions, including:•Patient registration, appointment scheduling, and financial transactions.•Managing insurance authorizations and referral processes for assigned clinics.•Collecting payments and conducting insurance screenings to determine the need for financial counseling.•This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced outpatient environment.

Responsibilities:
* ALL MEDICAL ACTS PERFORMED BY A MEDICAL ASSISTANT ARE PURSUANT TO DELEGATION BY AND UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A PHYSICIAN. THE DELEGATING PHYSICIAN REMAINS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MEDICAL ACTS OF THE MEDICAL ASSISTANT PERFORMING THOSE ACTS. Subject to this delegation requirement, the following job specific responsibilities apply:
* Escorts patient to treatments, exams, an procedures.
* Prepare patients for examinations, treatments and procedures by gathering patient data regarding condition; vital signs, biometrics and document in EHR.
* Obtain past medical history and history of current illness/condition.
* May perform data gathering for prescription refills. Limited to: reviewing medications with patient, removal of refill request from Voicemail or patient portal, verifying current prescription in EHR, and pending refill for provider. May NOT accept orders for medications or changes to medication prescription, i.e. dose, route, frequency.
* Perform point of care testing as ordered.
* Obtain specimens from patients through nasal, throat, skin and cheek swabs, urine specimens and, with additional training, venipuncture and capillary collection (blood), from patients. Facilitate transport of specimens.
* Prepare the clinic area by stocking examination rooms with appropriate medical supplies, disposing of medical waste properly, and cleaning and maintaining laboratory and examination equipment.
* Cleans and maintains examination rooms between patients.
* Upon completion of additional education, may set up sterile equipment trays.
* Upon completion of additional education, may perform EKG's.
* Provide patients and families pre-printed instructions and educational material, as directed by Physician or other Provider.
* Upon completion of additional education, perform certain advanced tasks at Physician or other Provider request and pursuant to physician delegation or standing orders. Limited to: eye drops (Ophthalmology), topical anesthetic (such as EMLA and Synera Patch), and immunization/vaccines.
* Upon completion of additional education, perform Dexascan in accordance with medical order or written protocol. (Nephrology Clinic)
* Complete Home Health, DME, Title 19, school forms and other governmental forms that do not require assessment or clinical judgment.
* May follow organizational Order Management - Electronic, Written, Verbal, Telephone Orders policies. May NOT accept orders for medications or changes to medication prescription, i.e. dose, route, frequency. May enter non-medication orders into EHR.
* Provide normal lab, imaging and pathology results via phone or letter to patient and families at the request and direction of Physician or other Provider. The fact that a result is Normal must be documented in the Provider's result notes regarding the lab, radiology or pathology results. Medical Assistant may NOT explain or interpret results.
* May respond to inbound interactions utilizing EHR to schedule and confirm patient appointments, registrations, and inquiries following established protocols to ensure patient safety and data integrity.
* May proactively contact patients, caregivers, Physicians and the community to schedule and remind patient appointments, complete registrations and respond to inquiries following established standard operating procedures.
* May perform front desk support including answering telephones, scheduling appointments, check-in and check-out procedures, collection and cash reconciliation; conducts reports following established protocols to ensure patient safety and optimize the revenue cycle.
* Submit to and pass external background check processes as required per vendor or funder requirements

This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

You may be required to float occasionally to other Children's Health locations including Dallas, Plano and THD Clinics.(sStart time hours can be discussed during interviews)

How You’ll Be Successful:

WORK EXPERIENCE
* Less than 1 year Medical Assistants hired before 4/1/2026 must have a minimum 6 months experience in a patient care setting or completion of MA program Req
* Effective 4/1/26, 6 months experience in a patient care setting preferred for new employees Pref

EDUCATION
* High school diploma or equivalent Medical Assistants hired before 4/1/26 or acquired from a merger/acquisition must have a high school diploma or equivalent Req
* Effective 4/1/2026, new employees must have graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant program. Req

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
* Effective April 1, 2026, new employees must have one of the following Medical Assistant Certifications (MAC):
* •Nat Cert Med Asst (NCMA) from NCCT
* •Cert Med Asst (CMA) from AAMA
* •Cert Cln Med Asst (CCMA) from NHA
* •Reg Med Asst (RMA) from AMT, AAMP or AAH
* •Nat Reg Cert Med Asst (NRCMA) from NAHP
* •Cln Med Asst Cert (CMAC) from AMCA. 180 Days Req
* Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements 60 Days, Req
* Medical Assistants hired before April 1, 2026 or acquired from a merger/acquisition, MA certificate acquired through an accredited program. Pref
