About the K8 General Surgery Med-Surg Unit:
The K8 Unit is one of the largest and most dynamic units in the hospital, consisting of 44 beds and caring primarily for pre- and post-surgical patients. This is a high-acuity, fast-paced environment where nurses manage complex recoveries, frequent pain reassessments, and a high volume of medication administration.
Our patient population typically has short lengths of stay, averaging one to three days, which creates consistent patient turnover. It is not uncommon for the unit to discharge and admit 20 or more patients within a single shift. This pace requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and excellent time-management skills.
What Sets Our Unit Apart:
What truly distinguishes K8 is its culture. Teamwork is the foundation of the unit’s success. Nurses consistently support one another, collaborate seamlessly, and step in without hesitation to ensure safe, effective patient care. The unit is well-equipped, with necessary equipment readily available in every patient room — eliminating time spent searching for resources and allowing nurses to stay focused on care delivery. K8 is also a strong learning environment. Staff take pride in teaching, mentoring, and helping others grow professionally.
