Registered Nurse (RN)
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse provides direct and indirect nursing care to Veteran patients at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center. RNs function as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team, delivering care consistent with Joint Commission standards and VA clinical policies.
Core Responsibilities:
Perform comprehensive patient assessments
Administer medications and IV therapies
Document care in VA’s Electronic Health Record (EHR)
Coordinate care with physicians and interdisciplinary teams
Respond to medical emergencies and rapid response events
Provide patient and family education
Maintain compliance with patient safety and infection control standards
Specialty Specific Duties:
Medical Surgical RN
Telemetry monitoring, admissions, discharges
IV therapy, wound care, pain management
Pre and post-operative care
ICU RN
Continuous monitoring of critically ill patients
Management of ventilators, CRRT, cardiac support devices
Administration of high-risk medications
Emergency Department RN
Triage and rapid assessment
Emergency interventions and trauma response
Medication administration and cardiac monitoring
Spinal Cord Injury RN
Acute and long-term SCI management
Bowel/bladder programs, skin integrity, rehab coordination
Community Living Center RN
Skilled nursing and rehab care
Wound care, IV antibiotics, ADL support
Discharge and transition planning
Required Qualifications:
Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program
Minimum of 2 years of recent clinical RN experience in specialty in the last 3 years
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association) for all specialties
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification (American Heart Association) Required only for ICU and ED
Ability to successfully complete:
VA credentialing and privileging
Background investigation and fingerprinting
Must meet all federal, state, and facility compliance requirements
