Overview

This temporary role supports a chemical plant in receiving materials from their rail yard. This role is responsible for safely offloading chemicals from railcars into tanker trucks and ensuring accurate documentation throughout the process. You’ll work hands-on with hoses, pumps, and industrial equipment in a fast‑paced plant environment while following strict safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Safely offload chemicals from railcars into tanker trucks
  • Connect and disconnect hoses and pumps; work on and under railcars as needed
  • Monitor transfers to prevent spills, leaks, or safety issues
  • Collect samples and deliver them to the lab
  • Record arrival times, transfer volumes, and sample timing in Excel
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE
  • Remain on your feet for most of a 12‑hour shift
  • Work with plant staff, drivers, and lab personnel
  • Assist with basic housekeeping and equipment upkeep

Essential Skills

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and climb ladders during 12‑hour shifts
  • Industrial or plant experience (outdoor/heavy industrial preferred)
  • Experience with hoses, pumps, and industrial equipment
  • Basic computer and Excel data entry skills
  • Strong attention to detail and safety focus
  • Comfort working around chemicals and industrial equipment
  • TWIC card eligible or willing to obtain

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Chemical offloading or bulk transfer experience
  • Chemical sampling or lab delivery experience
  • Plant, terminal, or manufacturing experience
  • Willingness to work a rotating 12‑hour schedule:
    • Schedule pattern: 2 days on / 1 day off / 3 days on / 1 day off
    • Day shift: 6 AM–6 PM
    • Night shift: 6 PM–6 AM
  • TWIC card eligibility and willingness to complete the application process

Work Environment

This position is based in an outdoor, heavy industrial chemical facility. You’ll work rotating 12‑hour shifts (6 AM–6 PM or 6 PM–6 AM) on a 2‑on/1‑off/3‑on/1‑off schedule. The role requires standing, walking, bending, climbing ladders, and working under railcars. You’ll handle hoses and pumps, work around tanker trucks and railcars, and use Excel for data entry. Chemical odors may be present during transfers, and required PPE must be worn at all times in this safety‑focused setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of East Chicago, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.77 - $21.77/hr.
