The Town of East Hartford is hiring Rangers for the upcoming summer season.

Department: Parks and Recreation -Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation or their designee, Rangers are responsible for patrolling Town parks and recreational facilities while ensuring that all policies governing facility use are followed. Additional duties include maintaining attendance records, identifying and reporting safety hazards, collaborating with Town staff to address safety concerns, and collecting fees when required for facility use and programs.

Hours

This is a part-time position with work hours scheduled during normal Town facility operations, as well as after-hours and weekends for community events.


Salary Range: $16.94 - $18.50

Opens and secures facilities scheduled for public use. Assists with parking automobiles at Parks and Recreation events. Enforces department policies by checking residency identification, verifying permits, and prohibiting the use of alcoholic beverages on park property.

Ability to enforce Parks and Recreation rules and regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public; to anticipate and identify dangerous or potentially dangerous situations within park facilities; and to recognize emergencies and take appropriate preventative action.


High school diploma.

The following physical and mental standards are required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position:

Mobility: Frequent walking throughout parks and recreational facilities; occasional kneeling, crouching, pushing, and pulling of materials and equipment; occasional reaching above and below desk level.
Lifting:Frequent lifting of papers, files, and materials up to 10 pounds; occasional lifting and carrying of equipment and other items up to 25 pounds.
Visual Requirements: Frequent use of vision necessary to read files, documents, computer screens, and perform close-up work.
Hearing/Talking: Frequent hearing and speaking, both in person and by telephone.
Emotional/Psychological Factors: Frequent interaction with others, including extensive contact with the public; frequent deadlines and time-sensitive assignments.

Work Environment:
Work is primarily performed outdoors at Town parks, recreational facilities, and other municipal properties. While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be exposed to varying weather conditions and must be able to work in outdoor environments for extended periods.
