Department Overview

The function of the Radiologic Technologist position within the Department of Diagnostic Imaging is toperform all phases of technical diagnostic imaging. Radiologic Technologists operate X-Ray equipment usedto capture and develop images for the purpose of medical diagnosis. The Radiologic technologist promotesOHSU’s mission statement by delivering high quality, cost effective, family-oriented service. This positionhelps to create a collaborative environment by integrating education, research and clinical leadership.Radiologic Technologists work with infant, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.

Flex trainee position; assignment no longer than 12 months. No guarantee of hours or schedule.

Function/Duties of Position

IMAGING:

  • Provides quality images with accuracy and efficiency, using optimal skills andknowledge of all equipment.
  • Technologists will be trained in all general radiology exams/areas so that theyare able to rotate through the department based on workflow needs.
  • Utilize the VIP transportation system to arrange for patient delivery.
  • Positions patient for diagnostic radiology exams according to departmentprocedures, training, and machine requirements with a high regard for thesafety and care of the patient.
  • Operates radiology equipment, determines and sets exposure factors, setstechnique utilizing all relevant factors to ensure accurate and quality imageswith minimal and acceptable repeat rates.
  • Uses computer image processing, as needed to select, process, optimize andarchive images to PACS.
  • Completely tracks exams in the Radiology Information system.
  • Develops and presents images and related patient information to radiologist for diagnosis.
  • Assists with patient transport by moving patients using standard procedures.
  • Assists in the training of Radiologic Technology Students, and adheres to dept. policy on supervision of student technologists.

DOCUMENTATION:

  • Gathers complete documentation of all pertinent information to provide accurateand timely service to customers.
  • Responsible to correctly identify patients by checking their identity perdepartment procedure.
  • Reviews patient chart and orders to insure correct examination.
  • Labels images completely with demographic, position and other neededdocumentation. Follows dept policy on the use of anatomical markers.
  • Logs activities, gathers charging information and charges exams as required.
  • Follows department and hospital procedures and policies.
  • Performs quality control and quality assurance, records results and reportsvariance from normal equipment function.

Required Qualifications

  • Current student from approved Radiologic Technology Program.
    • Must have completed student competencies under the approved program.
    • Must be within 4 months of graduation from approved program.
  • Must have demonstrated skills in the following areas:
    • Performing diagnostic imaging studies, Radiation safety, Effective use of equipment, Record maintenance, Infection control, Quality control, Compliance, Patient Communication, Contrast media, problem solving, judgment, teamwork and taking initiative.
  • Student candidates must obtain the RT(R)(ARRT) certification within 6 months of their hire date.
  • Candidates must have a current Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI) temporary license for student hires and permanent license for registered hires.
  • Must have a valid OHSU approved Basic Life Support CPR card.

Preferred Qualifications

  • OHSU-partnered Radiologic Technology program experience.
  • Level 1 Trauma Center experience; Academic Medical Center experience.

Additional Details

This position works in a busy environment with frequent interruptions, multiple demands and continuous interaction with patients and other medical professionals. It requires being exposed to radiation, chemicalsolutions, and human tissue/fluids.
