Job Overview:

Executes defined engineering design verification test plans for product research and development while identifying potential issues and gathering data as part of an Advanced Development Process. The role will handle complex development issues, be able to contribute to technical discussions, create new test methods and fixtures, and manage data to help discover new insights.


This position is responsible for providing product testing support and analysis for R&D engineers. This role must have the ability to handle complex root cause investigations and simultaneously utilize testing, problem-solving skills, and experience. This role will help design, develop, and improve new products by providing product testing support to many different industry and internal performance standards.The R&D Lab Technician also manages prototype test equipment, assists in the assembly of prototype and field trial products, and is responsible for upkeeping the equipment in the R&D test lab. This position reports to the Principal System Architect but works directly with the entire R&D staff in supporting various projects.


Responsibilities:

  • Concept and design verification testing new products or processes to internal and existing industry standards
  • Provide technical guidance to R&D engineers and to help lead future courses of action with product development efforts
  • Generate and distribute test reports and document performance test or test procedures for complex issues and provide consultation and solutions to R&D engineers
  • Assist product engineers in development of new or existing products or processes
  • Understand and troubleshoot more complex electronic products
  • Conduct root cause failure analysis on prototype products
  • Maintain and care for the laboratory and related equipment and tools
  • Participate in the design and construction of more specialized test equipment and fixtures



Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess an AS or BS in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Technology or related field and 3+ year of relevant experience, or the equivalent combination of experience and education. Strong emphasis is given to superior demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to communicate effectively. Previous experience setting up and executing performance testing using laboratory equipment and instrumentation is required. Knowledge of use and care of testing equipment including pressure gauges, flow meters, load cells, and pressure transducers preferred. Familiarity and understanding of quality documents such as SOP’s, design specs, work instructions, training guides, and test methods. A working knowledge of relevant industry standards such as CSA, ASSE, ASME, ASTM, and ISO would prove beneficial. Computer literacy is required in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and some Access) as well as the ability and desire to learn new applications.
