Job Description:
The QPS Specialist is a key player in ensuring excellent quality and patient safety within the hospital. As an expert for assigned departments/units, the QPS Specialist assists in the development, implementation, and improvement of programs to meet quality and safety standards, especially when it comes to patient care. This involves data analysis, working with QPS leadership, and other teams to manage projects, and being the subject matter expert for all things quality, patient safety, and incident management, while aligning with the hospital's overall goals.
Core Responsibilities:
Clinical Quality Partnership Program:
- Work with department and unit leaders to ensure quality standards are met and best practices for quality and patient safety are in place.
- Act as an internal consultant and expert for assigned departments/units on all quality and patient safety matters.
- Help set both hospital-wide and department-specific short-term and long-term quality and patient safety goals.
- Facilitate discussions and take shared ownership of various quality and patient safety initiatives with departments.
- Provide department-specific recommendations to help them reach their quality and patient safety goals.
Metric Achievement and Compliance:
- Collaborate closely with department and unit leadership to ensure continuous progress towards quality and patient safety metrics and compliance with corrective action plans.
- Work with others to develop and implement appropriate action plans when needed.
Adverse Event Management:
- Identify events that need escalation and participate in the Patient Safety Debrief
- Review event reporting and QA reviews
- Participate in Root Cause Analysis
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Work closely with the QPS Data Analyst to create robust reports on quality and patient safety processes and outcomes.
- Interpret data to track compliance, progress, and achievement of quality and patient safety goals.
- Assist department and unit leadership in setting benchmarks and contribute to recommendations for best practices.
- Provide guidance for preparing reports for the Board Quality and PI Committee.
Initiative Development and Training:
- Help develop and implement quality-driven initiatives including the hospital-wide QPS Goals.
- May participate in training clinical staff and management on quality and patient safety improvement methods, goals, and initiatives.
- Facilitate disease specific programs (e.g. Stroke, Sepsis, etc.), use a data to drive improve patient outcomes
Project Management & Quality Analysis:
- Define project scope, timeline, objectives, success criteria, and team members using strong analytical processes and project management/performance improvement methods.
- As needed, perform complex quality analysis, develop improvement strategies, and monitor the effectiveness of quality and patient safety initiatives using data and various change management or improvement methodologies (e.g. PDSA, Lean, or FMEA)
Process Monitoring and Improvement:
- Constantly monitor how effective various processes are, how well best practices are being followed, and if they're aligned with goals at both departmental and organizational levels, using evolving data.
- Provide recommendations for continuous improvement and process streamlining as needed.
Regulatory Survey Response:
- Participate in regulatory surveys as a Survey Scribe, chart review, Command Center support, or other duties as directed by the Director, QPS or CQO.
- Ensure compliance with corrective actions for those departments or units assigned for the Quality Partnership Program.

Education:
- Bachelor's Degree - Required
- Master’s Degree in a related field - Preferred
- Clinical Licensure - Required
Work Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience - Required
- 3-5 years Project Management experience - Preferred
- CPHQ/CPPS- Preferred/Required within 6 months
- Trained or certified in methodologies such as Six Sigma, PDCA, Lean, or Project Management - Preferred
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other web-based applications - Required
- Strong analytical/problem-solving, critical thinking, and idea-generating abilities - Required
- Strong team-building ability: effectively able to motivate, engage, and encourage team participation – Required
