Job Description

The Quality Inspector ensures that components, assemblies, and finished products meet engineering and customer specifications through thorough inspection, testing, and documentation. This role uses precision measurement tools, interprets mechanical and electrical blueprints, and collaborates closely with production teams to maintain and improve product quality. The position requires strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently while following established safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures as outlined in the employee guidelines.
  • Inspect components and assemblies to ensure compliance with engineering and customer specifications.
  • Perform quality inspections of plenums, stacks, and plenum bases to verify they meet defined standards.
  • Conduct thorough inspections and testing of materials and finished products to confirm quality and performance.
  • Read and interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints, technical documents, and manuals accurately.
  • Utilize precision measurement tools, such as calipers, micrometers, tape measures, torque wrenches, borescopes, color eye, and paint thickness testers, including metric scales, to verify product dimensions and characteristics.
  • Document complete unit assemblies via photographs and maintain a digital project photo archive for traceability and reference.
  • Define and implement quality standards for manufactured products in alignment with customer and internal requirements.
  • Evaluate finished products against established quality criteria and communicate inspection results clearly to the production team.
  • Identify and remove non-conforming products from the production flow and propose strategies for quality improvement.
  • Perform random inspections during production to assess and maintain consistent product quality.
  • Recommend adjustments and improvements to production processes to enhance overall quality and efficiency.
  • Verify component labeling on fuel tanks and bases for accuracy and compliance with specifications.
  • Provide direction and guidance to other personnel regarding quality requirements and inspection methods.
  • Follow verbal directions and work independently with minimal supervision while meeting deadlines and quality expectations.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned in support of the quality and production teams.
Essential Skills
  • Prior quality inspection or quality assurance experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • 1–2 years of manufacturing experience preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to read and understand English to interpret work instructions, procedures, and documentation.
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints, technical documents, and manuals.
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools, including calipers, micrometers, tape measures, torque wrenches, borescopes, color eye, paint thickness testers, and metric scales.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess quality issues and determine appropriate actions.
  • Meticulous attention to detail when inspecting parts, assemblies, and finished products.
  • Foundational math skills to perform measurements, tolerances, and basic calculations related to inspections.
  • Basic computer skills to document inspections, maintain digital photo archives, and complete quality records.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, with production and quality teams.
  • Ability to follow verbal directions and work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high quality standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience defining and implementing quality standards for manufactured products.
  • Knowledge of complete generator assembly processes, operational principles, and customer requirements.
  • Ability to recommend adjustments and improvements to production processes to enhance quality and consistency.
  • Experience performing random inspections to monitor and maintain ongoing product quality.
  • Capability to effectively identify and remove non-conforming products and recommend corrective actions.
  • Experience documenting complete unit assemblies with photographs and maintaining organized digital archives.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with multiple product types and assemblies.

Work Environment

This is a hands-on role in a manufacturing and assembly environment with multiple openings across different buildings and shifts. Available schedules include 1st shift (approximately 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday) and 3rd shift (approximately 6:00 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday). The work involves being on the production floor, performing visual inspections, using precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches, borescopes, color eye, paint thickness testers, tape measures, and metric scales, and working around generator assemblies, plenums, stacks, and plenum bases. You will work under established safety procedures and quality standards in a structured, process-driven setting where clear communication and adherence to guidelines are essential.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Machesney Park, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
