Job Summary
The Quality and Food Safety Supervisor is a front-line leader responsible for driving a culture of operational excellence and food safety. This role blends technical expertise with lean manufacturing principles to support innovation, commercialization, and FSMA/GFSI compliance. You will serve as a technical mentor and role model, ensuring our team delivers safe, high-quality products while meeting rigorous production timelines.
Essential Functions
Leadership & Culture
- Site Stewardship: Lead initiatives to ensure the facility remains safe, clean, and highly organized.
- Team Management: Manage scheduling for hourly Quality and Sanitation partners; provide training and engagement to build a high-performing team.
- Continuous Improvement: Utilize the Company Performance System to drive process control and risk reduction.
Compliance & Auditing
- Regulatory Oversight: Maintain full compliance with FSMA and GFSI standards, including the Environmental Monitoring Program and Preventative Controls.
- Internal Audits: Manage all internal audits and oversee the timely completion of corrective actions.
- Standardization: Update, review, and conduct training on SOPs, SSOPs, GMPs, and the Food Safety Plan.
Operations & Technical Support
- Production Integrity: Administer line audits and process checks to ensure product conformance to specifications; initiate hold procedures when necessary.
- R&D Collaboration: Provide technical leadership for R&D projects, reformulations, and sanitary design during commercialization.
- Analysis: Conduct and review analytical tests on incoming ingredients and finished goods.
- Calibration: Ensure the equipment calibration and verification program is strictly followed.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related field.
- Experience: 3–6 years of Quality Assurance experience in a supervisory role, preferably within a food manufacturing environment.
- Certification: Must be a Certified PCQI.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of GFSI/FSMA requirements and the ability to apply data-based decision-making to complex problems.
- Soft Skills: A decisive nature with high initiative, a positive attitude, and the ability to communicate instructions clearly in English.
- Organization: Exceptional time management skills to balance long-term projects with the immediate needs of production shifts.
Working Conditions & Physical Factors
- Safety Adherence: Must conduct all work in strict accordance with GFSI and company policies.
- Environment: Ability to work in a facility that processes nuts, peanuts, dairy, grains, and other allergens.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely maneuver through production and warehouse environments.
- Flexibility: Willingness to adjust work hours and shifts based on the production schedule and shifting priorities.
