Job Description

The Quality Control Technician ensures that in-process and finished powder coating products meet all quality standards before release. This role performs a variety of laboratory tests, investigates nonconforming results, and has authority to stop production when products are out of specification. The position offers opportunities for growth, including potential movement into a research and development laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform quality control testing on in-process and finished powder coating products.
• Run various tests for quality control, including preparing and evaluating spray panels, checking gloss levels, and testing for color accuracy.
• Conduct root cause analysis on any out-of-specification product and make clear, actionable recommendations for corrections.
• Confirm and document the quality of finished products for final release.
• Exercise stop authority and halt production when nonconformance or out-of-specification conditions are detected.
• Collect samples from production areas and bring them to the Quality Control office for testing.
• Accurately enter test results and related data into SAP.
• Use Microsoft Office applications to document, analyze, and communicate quality data and findings.
• Take ownership of decisions related to product quality and demonstrate accountability for results.
• Collaborate with production and other teams to resolve quality issues and support continuous improvement efforts.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of previous quality control experience.
• Experience in quality control within paints, coatings, inks, or similar industries; quality control experience from food or pharmaceutical environments is also considered.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to conduct root cause analysis for nonconforming products and recommend corrective actions.
• Comfort with exercising stop authority and stopping production when product is out of specification.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to understand, speak, and write in English to follow procedures and document results.
• Comfort working in a manufacturing and powder environment and going into production areas to obtain samples.
• Strong decision-making skills, with a high sense of accountability and ownership.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience specifically in powder coating with a background in quality testing is a strong plus.
• Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• Experience with SAP or similar enterprise systems is a plus.
• Quality control experience in paints, coatings, inks, or related industries is highly valued.
• Quality control experience in food or pharmaceutical industries is also considered beneficial.
• Interest in future opportunities to move into a research and development laboratory environment.

Work Environment

The Quality Control Technician works primarily in a Quality Control office and laboratory setting within a manufacturing facility and regularly goes out to the production floor to collect samples. The role involves working in a powder environment and requires comfort with typical manufacturing conditions. The position follows a night or overnight schedule, including options such as a 12-hour rotating or swing shift and a night shift schedule, with training initially conducted on a first-shift schedule for several weeks depending on learning pace. Occasional weekend work may be required. The dress code is casual, and a lab coat is provided and worn during laboratory work. The role uses laboratory testing equipment, SAP for data entry, and Microsoft Office for documentation and analysis, and requires an onsite presence, including onsite interviews during the hiring process.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Geneva, IL.

The pay range for this position is $24.64 - $24.64/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Geneva,IL.
