Job Description

The Quality Assurance Technician plays a key role in ensuring the quality and reliability of products that are repaired or assembled, with a strong focus on electronics. This position verifies that materials, products, and processes meet defined specifications and requirements, and may guide quality efforts within production and repair areas. The role works closely with engineering and production teams to drive continuous improvement, resolve quality concerns, and support the delivery of high-performance robotic and vehicle systems used to access and inspect hard-to-reach areas, such as cracks in pipes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all job duties in accordance with company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
  • Follow 5S and Lean manufacturing practices, Quality Systems Procedures, and all health and safety policies while performing daily tasks.
  • Conduct regular quality assessments on incoming materials from vendors to ensure they meet specified standards.
  • Inspect and verify outgoing products prior to shipping to confirm they meet all quality and specification requirements.
  • Measure product dimensions and examine functionality, comparing final products to engineering specifications and documentation.
  • Use test equipment and gauges, including electronic and mechanical measurement tools, to evaluate product performance and compliance.
  • Reject products and materials that do not meet quality expectations and ensure proper documentation of nonconformances.
  • Document and track quality and inspection findings in an organized and accurate manner.
  • Utilize engineering drawings, electrical schematics, bills of materials (BOMs), and other technical documents to perform inspections and troubleshooting.
  • Assist in the assembly or repair process as needed to support production and service activities.
  • Recommend improvements to production processes to enhance quality control and reduce defects.
  • Train and coach production team members on quality concerns, standards, and best practices to improve product excellence.
  • Collect, analyze, and summarize statistical quality data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Correct drawing discrepancies and provide clarifications to the appropriate departments to ensure accurate documentation.
  • Interface regularly with engineering and product teams to resolve quality issues and align on product requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the quality, production, and engineering functions.

Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 4 years of quality assurance experience, preferably focused on electronics.
  • Associate degree in electronics or engineering, such as an Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) degree, or equivalent relevant education.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience using and understanding test equipment, including oscilloscopes, hi-pot testers, vectorscopes, and mechanical measurement gauges.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working within a quality-focused environment.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and a basic working knowledge of GD&T principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and bills of materials.
  • Proficiency in performing detailed inspections, measurements, and functional tests on electronic and electro-mechanical products.
  • Strong documentation skills for recording inspection results, nonconformances, and quality data.
  • Capability to identify quality issues, make sound judgments on product acceptance, and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with production, engineering, and product teams.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement in all aspects of work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, repair, or assembly environment involving electronic or electro-mechanical products.
  • Familiarity with 5S and Lean manufacturing principles and their application on the production floor.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and summarizing statistical quality data for process improvement.
  • Ability to provide training and guidance to production team members on quality standards and best practices.
  • Skill in identifying and correcting drawing discrepancies and communicating clarifications to relevant departments.
  • Interest in working with advanced technologies such as robots and specialized vehicles used for inspection in hard-to-reach areas.
  • Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and reliability in daily work.

Work Environment

The Quality Assurance Technician works in a hands-on production and repair environment focused on electronic and electro-mechanical products, including robots and specialized vehicles used to access and inspect areas such as cracks inside pipes. The quality department is a small, close-knit team of approximately six people, with additional collaboration with a field service group. The work setting emphasizes safety, adherence to OSHA standards, and the use of 5S and Lean manufacturing practices. Daily work involves frequent interaction with engineering and product teams, use of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, hi-pot testers, vectorscopes, and mechanical measurement gauges, and regular handling of engineering drawings, schematics, and BOMs. The environment offers the opportunity to make a visible, daily impact on operations within a smaller organization where individuals are recognized for their contributions. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Waukesha, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $34.00/hr.
