QC Technician
Job Description
The QC Technician ensures that products and processes meet established quality standards by performing inspections, managing quality documentation, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. This role develops and maintains training programs, participates actively in safety and 5S programs, and collaborates closely with production teams to identify and resolve quality issues. The QC Technician interprets drawings and specifications, manages quality audits and measuring devices, and contributes to the ongoing improvement of the quality management system.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain training programs to keep personnel current on inspection methods, test procedures, and quality standards.
- Participate in safety programs and consistently uphold a strong safety culture in daily activities.
- Communicate effectively with team members about production issues, quality concerns, and operational needs.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and actively participate in improving existing processes and procedures.
- Participate in plant 5S initiatives and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Perform in‑process and final inspections of bridge components and other products to verify compliance with requirements.
- Conduct periodic inspections of processes and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance with quality standards and specifications.
- Interpret drawings, work orders, and project documents and make accurate assessments of product compliance.
- Assist in the creation, implementation, and continuous improvement of the quality management system.
- Create, maintain, and audit procedures and work instructions to support consistent and compliant operations.
- Plan, conduct, and manage quality assurance audits, including internal audits and process reviews.
- Manage monitoring and measuring devices, including verification, calibration coordination, and proper usage.
- Perform and document quality control and quality assurance activities related to concrete, metal fabrication, and associated structures as needed.
- Apply Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) principles in daily work to maintain high standards of quality and consistency.
- Use basic arithmetic to work accurately with fractions, decimals, and both metric and imperial (U.S. standard) measurements during inspections and testing.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with welding and fabrication personnel to support development, qualification, and execution of welding procedure specifications (WPSs), when required.
- Conduct or support internal audits related to standards such as NDT, AISC, and AWS codes, as applicable to the role.
- Perform other quality-related tasks as assigned to support production, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Essential Skills
- At least 3 years of experience in metal fabrication, inspection, and testing.
- Demonstrated experience in quality control and/or inspection roles.
- Ability to read, handwrite, and type in English at a level consistent with high school education.
- Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, work orders, project documents, and engineering drawings.
- Experience reading and interpreting project documents and technical drawings for compliance assessments.
- Demonstrated proficiency in basic arithmetic, including working with fractions and decimals.
- Ability to use measuring devices accurately with both metric and imperial (U.S. standard) units.
- Solid math, analytical, and problem‑solving skills applied to quality and process issues.
- Knowledge and practical use of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to make objective decisions and be assertive in enforcing compliance with quality requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all inspection, testing, and documentation activities.
- Ability to work effectively as a team player in a fast‑paced, continually changing environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as part of normal job duties.
- Ability to work overtime outside of the normal shift, including weekends and holidays, with little or no advance notice.
- Willingness to attain AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification within 6 months of employment.
- Visual acuity sufficient to perform detailed inspections with or without corrective lenses.
- Ability to work in environments with exposure to temperature extremes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with welding processes and welding equipment.
- Experience with development, preparation, qualification, and execution of welding procedure specifications (WPSs).
- Experience and/or certification in nondestructive testing (NDT).
- Familiarity or experience with standards such as AISC, AWS D1.5, AWS D1.4, and AWS D1.1.
- Experience as a weld technician.
- Experience in Lean Six Sigma methodologies and tools.
- Experience performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Experience conducting internal quality audits.
- Background in quality control, quality assurance, and document control processes.
- Experience with concrete testing, sampling, mixing, and inspection of concrete structures and construction.
- Understanding and application of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) principles.

Work Environment
This position is based in a concrete plant environment that is typically dusty and non‑climate‑controlled, with exposure to temperature extremes depending on the season. Work takes place in and around production areas where heavy materials, metal fabrication, and concrete operations occur. The role requires frequent movement through the plant, regular use of measuring devices and inspection tools, and adherence to safety practices and personal protective equipment requirements appropriate for an industrial setting.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Denver, NC.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
