Job Description

The Quality Control Technician supports food safety and product quality in a food and beverage manufacturing environment. Depending on level (I, II, or III), this role performs product and equipment checks, verifies critical control points, conducts environmental monitoring, and supports audits and continuous improvement initiatives. The technician works closely with production and quality teams to ensure products meet regulatory, customer, and internal standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform regular product temperature checks throughout production to ensure products remain within specified limits.
  • Conduct ATP equipment hygiene checks to verify effective cleaning and sanitation.
  • Inspect production equipment for cleanliness and sanitation readiness before and during operations.
  • Perform Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) inspections on production lines and in processing areas.
  • Conduct sanitizer concentration verification to confirm proper chemical strength for effective sanitation.
  • Measure pH and salt concentrations in products to ensure they meet product specifications.
  • Perform pre-operational inspections prior to production start-up and document any deficiencies.
  • Verify water temperatures to ensure they meet process and sanitation requirements.
  • Accurately document all test results, inspections, and findings, and promptly report deviations to quality assurance leadership.
  • Perform all Quality Control Technician I responsibilities at the QC II level.
  • Conduct thermometer calibrations to ensure accuracy of temperature monitoring devices.
  • Perform seal integrity checks using vacuum testing equipment to verify proper package closure.
  • Collect sensory and retain samples for quality verification and future reference.
  • Conduct sensory evaluations of finished products to assess appearance, flavor, texture, and overall quality.
  • Verify label accuracy and compliance, including ingredients, coding, and regulatory information.
  • Communicate food safety and quality concerns clearly and promptly to supervisors and production teams.
  • Perform all Quality Control Technician I and II duties at the QC III level.
  • Monitor and document freezer and cooler temperatures to maintain proper storage conditions.
  • Conduct environmental swabbing in ready-to-eat (RTE) production areas to verify sanitation effectiveness.
  • Oversee receiving inspections of ingredients and raw materials to confirm quality and specification compliance.
  • Assist in root cause investigations for quality and food safety issues and help implement corrective actions.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, records, and process explanations.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior quality control team members to support their development and ensure consistent practices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or a related field is helpful and considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with quality control and quality assurance principles in food manufacturing.
  • Experience working with meat products and understanding of related food safety considerations.
  • Comfort working with measurement instruments such as thermometers, pH meters, and scales.
  • Ability to support audits and participate in root cause investigations and corrective actions.
  • Interest in long-term career growth within quality and food safety functions.

Work Environment

This role is based in a food and beverage manufacturing facility with a focus on meat products and ready-to-eat (RTE) items. The position involves frequent work on the production floor, in cold environments such as coolers and freezers, and in wet or sanitized areas where strict hygiene and GMP standards apply. Quality Control Technician typically starts between 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, with potential Sunday work as needed. The role requires regular interaction with production, sanitation, and quality teams, as well as the use of testing and monitoring equipment such as thermometers, pH meters, vacuum testing devices, and data entry tools. The position is offered as a 6‑month contract with the opportunity for long‑term growth based on performance and business needs.

This is a Contract position based out of Carson, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.70 - $24.57/hr.
