This is a non-exempt, part-time position, not to exceed 1,039 work hours in a fiscal year, with Health and Human Services located in Carson City, Nevada.Under general supervision, Public Health Interns receive training and complete a variety of assignments or projects directly relating to their major course of study in order to enhance their academic training. This opportunity allows upper division or graduate students to build their portfolio with experience in Public Health, analytical thinking, communications, and relationship building.
This is a grant/special funded position and, as such, employees are responsible for knowing abiding by the rules of the grant/special funding. This position will continue to be funded as long as the grant/special funding is renewed.

Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.- Completes a variety of assignments or projects related to Public Health, to assist with the operations and functions of the health department.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the health department by offering customer-focused interactions through the phone, electronic services, as well as face-to-face interactions with the public.
- Researches technical data involving demographic statistics, regulations, codes, etc.
- Works with various boards, committees, commissions, and divisions on objectives and goals relevant to assignments and projects.
- Attends meetings, forums, work sessions, and training seminars.
- Stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the areas of public health.
- Operates a variety of office equipment and technical tools related to job assignments.
- Assists in developing technical reports for distribution to various officials and members of the public; may develop and make presentations.
- Communicates with members of the general public, officials from other agencies and community groups, to gather information necessary to complete assignments and projects.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:Under General Supervision- Incumbents at this level are given assignments and objectives that are governed by specifically outlined work methods and a sequence of steps, which are explained in general terms. The responsibility for achieving the work objectives, however, rests with a superior. Immediate supervision is not consistent, but checks are integrated into work processes and/or reviews are frequent enough to ensure compliance with instructions.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:- Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.

This may require working a non-traditional work schedule or working outside normal assigned duties during the incident and/or emergency.
- Employees may be required to complete Incident Command System training as a condition of continuing employment.
- New employees are required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation and a drug screen. The fee associated with the background check and drug test must be paid for by the employee prior to beginning employment. Employment is contingent upon passing the background and the drug screening.
