Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Director – Data Centers to lead the successful delivery of large-scale, mission-critical construction projects for a leading general contractor. This role is responsible for overall project leadership, client management, and delivery performance across hyperscale and enterprise data center developments ranging from $100M to $1B+. The Project Director will oversee multiple project teams and ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Delivery
- Provide executive leadership for large-scale data center construction projects from preconstruction through commissioning and closeout.
- Oversee multiple project teams including Project Managers, Superintendents, Engineers, and subcontractors.
- Ensure projects meet schedule, cost, safety, and quality objectives while managing complex mission-critical systems and fast-track construction schedules.
- Implement best practices in project execution, risk mitigation, and operational efficiency.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary executive point of contact for hyperscale and colocation clients.
- Build strong relationships with owners, developers, design teams, and trade partners.
- Lead client meetings, project reporting, and strategic decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.
Financial Oversight
- Manage project financial performance including budgets, forecasting, cost control, and margin protection.
- Oversee contract negotiations, change management, and GMP/Lump Sum project delivery.
- Monitor project performance across multiple sites and ensure financial targets are achieved.
Preconstruction & Planning
- Collaborate with preconstruction and estimating teams on budgeting, scheduling, and constructability.
- Provide strategic input during planning phases to optimize design, schedule, and cost.
- Support pursuit strategy and participate in key client presentations and proposal development.
Operational Excellence
- Ensure strict adherence to safety standards and company policies across all project sites.
- Promote innovation, lean construction methods, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Mentor and develop high-performing project leadership teams.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of construction experience with significant leadership on large-scale projects.
- Extensive data center / mission-critical construction experience (hyperscale or colocation preferred).
- Proven track record delivering projects $250M – $1B+.
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and large teams.
- Strong knowledge of MEP-intensive construction, commissioning, and mission-critical systems.
- Experience with GMP, Lump Sum, and Design-Build delivery methods.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
