Programmatic Nurse Specialist - ICU Division (UPMC Presbyterian)

UPMC Presbyterian is seeking a highly skilled and driven Programmatic Nurse Specialist to support and lead clinical excellence across the entire ICU service line. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced critical care nurse leader who is passionate about advancing evidence-based practice, strengthening quality and safety standards, and driving system-wide ICU initiatives. About the Position: The Programmatic Nurse Specialist will play a key role in oversight of ICU clinical standards, leading high-impact improvement initiatives, and supporting accreditation readiness while partnering with interdisciplinary teams to promote consistent, high-quality care across all ICUs and associated departments.Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7am-3pm

Responsibilities:
  • Builds collaborative relationships through clear, respectful, and transparent communication; serves as a professional role model
  • Serves as a clinical expert, consultant, mentor, and coach to nursing staff and interdisciplinary partners
  • Leads staff education, competency development, and specialty-specific patient/family education
  • Assesses, leads, and evaluates evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and system/process improvement initiatives
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and sustain care standards, protocols, and models
  • Monitors clinical and operational outcomes to improve quality, safety, throughput, and patient satisfaction
  • Leads and participates in service line and hospital-wide committees, initiatives, and major projects
  • Mentors staff in professional development, research, EBP, and performance improvement activities
  • Analyzes and disseminates current literature to support best practices and improved outcomes
  • Demonstrates initiative, accountability, adaptability, and independent prioritization to meet organizational goals
  • MSN or Master's in related field; if masters in related field required, BSN required
  • Doctorate preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant clinical specialty experience Leadership and project management experience preferred

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse license
    • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
  • UPMC approved certification required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 30 days of hire
