Job Title: Filling Machine Operator

Job Description

The Filling Machine Operator sets up, operates, and maintains filling and packaging equipment in a fast-paced food production environment. This role focuses on ensuring product quality, food safety, and equipment efficiency while accurately documenting production and sanitation activities. The position works a back-half night shift schedule and plays a key role in maintaining continuous production until the facility’s planned shutdown in July 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and monitor filling machines and related packaging line equipment to ensure efficient and accurate production.
  • Perform routine maintenance and nominal mechanical adjustments on equipment to support safe and reliable operation.
  • Perform and record quality checks to verify shelf-life integrity, package quality, and adherence to product specifications.
  • Perform and document Clean-in-Place (CIP) procedures and in-process sanitation on equipment and in assigned areas as needed.
  • Ensure all food safety and product quality protocols are followed consistently throughout the shift.
  • Follow all Safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) regulations at all times while on the production floor.
  • Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, face shields, hearing protection, safety shoes, gloves, and aprons, as required.
  • Monitor the packaging line and product coming out of the packaging machine to identify and address issues promptly.
  • Input Redzone codes accurately and in a timely manner to support production tracking and reporting.
  • Provide coverage in the absence of other filling machine operators to maintain continuous operations.
  • Work with moderate supervision while organizing tasks, prioritizing work, and solving routine production problems.
  • Multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment, balancing equipment monitoring, quality checks, and documentation.
  • Handle materials and products safely, including pushing up to 300 pounds and pulling up to 500 pounds with mechanical assistance, and lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Perform general labor tasks related to production, packaging, and warehouse activities as needed.
  • Complete other duties as assigned to support overall production and operational goals.

Essential Skills

  • Experience operating machines or equipment in a production, packaging, warehouse, or food manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work with moderate supervision while remaining detail oriented and focused on quality.
  • Organizational and prioritization skills to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
  • Effective problem-solving skills to address routine equipment and production issues.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Strong basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to read and interpret charts, monitors, and production data.
  • Basic computer skills to input production information, including Redzone codes.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to be mechanically inclined for basic equipment adjustments and maintenance.
  • Ability to push up to 300 pounds and pull up to 500 pounds with mechanical assistance.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds frequently, using team lifting for heavier or awkward items.
  • Ability to stand for 12 or more hours in a production environment.
  • Ability to work back-half night shifts: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and every other Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
  • Willingness and ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, face shields, hearing protection, safety shoes, gloves, and aprons.
  • Ability to work in an environment with strong odors and continuous production noise.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior experience in food manufacturing or food production environments.
  • Experience in packaging, warehouse operations, or general labor within manufacturing.
  • Experience operating filling machines or similar automated production equipment.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food safety protocols.
  • Comfort using production software or systems, such as Redzone, for data entry and tracking.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy in documentation and quality checks.

Work Environment

The role is based in a fast-paced food production facility focused on monitoring the packaging line and product exiting the packaging machines. Employees work back-half night shifts on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and every other Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. The environment can include strong odors and continuous production noise, and requires standing and moving on the production floor for 12 or more hours per shift. The work involves frequent interaction with filling machines, packaging lines, and warehouse equipment, with mechanical assistance available for moving heavier loads. Safety and Good Manufacturing Practices are strictly followed, and steel toe boots are required for all production and warehouse positions. Additional PPE such as safety glasses, face shields, hearing protection, gloves, and aprons must be worn as appropriate to the task.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tualatin, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.50 - $20.50/hr.
