Job Description

The Production Worker supports a high-volume custom manufacturing operation by building and assembling doors, verifying materials and specifications, and ensuring finished products meet quality and code requirements. This role involves frequent use of hand and power tools, basic mechanical troubleshooting, and accurate completion of production documentation. The position is physically demanding and requires consistent attention to safety, detail, and productivity in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Verify correct materials, dimensions, and machining tolerances before and during each production run to ensure accuracy and compliance with specifications.
  • Build and assemble doors, including installing hardware and other components according to work orders and customer requirements.
  • Inspect finished doors for accuracy, quality, and adherence to building code standards and customer expectations.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting on mechanical or operational issues to minimize downtime and maintain production flow.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in manufacturing areas to support a safe, efficient, and orderly work environment.
  • Complete daily logs and production paperwork, accurately recording the quantity and type of doors produced.
  • Communicate production or quality concerns promptly to supervisors and relevant team members.
  • Follow all safety requirements, procedures, and protocols to ensure a secure working environment.
  • Report equipment malfunctions or safety hazards immediately and assist in corrective actions when necessary.
  • Use conveyance systems and rollers to move materials and finished pieces efficiently through the production process.
  • Handle general warehouse and production tasks such as loading, unloading, wrapping, palletizing, packaging, and preparing items for shipping as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall production process and team objectives.
Essential Skills
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform basic troubleshooting on mechanical or operational issues.
  • 3–6 months of experience using hand and power tools in a production, construction, or similar environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret a tape measure accurately.
  • Ability to read and follow work orders and production documentation.
  • Consistent dependability with a proven track record of reliable attendance and performance in previous roles.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver 50 pounds consistently and lift up to 80–100 pounds occasionally, often multiple times per shift.
  • Fine motor skills to handle small parts, tools, and controls safely and accurately.
  • Specific vision abilities including close vision for reading fine print and detailed measurements.
  • Ability to stand approximately 8–10 hours per day, 5 days a week, with the possibility of working 6 days a week based on business needs.
  • Ability to regularly bend, squat, push, and lift objects on and off machines throughout the shift.
  • Comfort working in a labor-intensive, hands-on role and taking pride in producing quality work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working in a wood shop or door shop (highly preferred).
  • On-site construction experience, particularly in carpentry or framing, which has been successful in this environment.
  • Experience in general warehouse operations such as loading, unloading, wrapping, palletizing, packaging, and shipping.
  • Experience in production or manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated initiative and a proactive approach to work, with a preference for taking action rather than waiting for direction.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to handle workplace issues calmly and professionally.

Work Environment

This role is based in a large manufacturing facility dedicated to custom cabinetry and door production, assembly, and shipping. The environment includes multiple stages of manufacturing with overhead cranes, forklifts, and trucks moving throughout the facility, requiring strong situational awareness and adherence to safety protocols. As a custom shop, there is a significant amount of sawdust in the air and on surfaces, and employees regularly work around woodworking machinery and production equipment. The position follows a Monday through Friday schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with occasional overtime based on business needs. The work is physically demanding, involving standing for most of the shift, frequent bending, squatting, pushing, and lifting heavy materials. Appropriate work attire suitable for an industrial manufacturing setting and the use of required personal protective equipment are expected to ensure safety and comfort on the production floor.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tacoma, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $30.00/hr.
