Job Description

The Electrode Department Operator works in the Mixing Department to safely handle, mix, and process powdered materials used in production. This role involves operating mixing equipment, following strict safety and cleanroom procedures, and wearing full personal protective equipment, including a full-face respirator, while working with powders and chemicals in a highly controlled environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate mixing equipment in the Electrode Department according to established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Prepare and load powdered materials into mixing machines, including carrying 30-pound bags of powder up and down stairs several times per day.
  • Wear a full-face respirator mask and appropriate protective suit when handling and mixing powders and working around chemicals.
  • Perform mixing tasks 2–3 times per day, including dumping powders into bins to start the mixing process, which typically takes 30 minutes to 1 hour per batch.
  • Work safely around slurry created when powders come into contact with acid or water, ensuring proper use of PPE to avoid skin contact.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with cleanroom standards and 5S3K practices.
  • Follow all plant safety rules, including restrictions on jewelry, and use wash stations as needed after exposure to dirty processes.
  • Support general production activities as needed, including basic assembly, machine operation, and cleanroom production tasks.
  • Adhere to the rotating 12-hour shift schedule, including day or night shifts and working every other weekend.
  • Walk between buildings and across the plant as needed to complete assigned tasks within the large facility.

Essential Skills

  • At least 6 months of manufacturing experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a minimum of 9 months tenure at previous jobs.
  • Experience with production, general production, or manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to work safely with powders, chemicals, and slurry while following PPE and safety protocols.
  • Capability to wear a full-face respirator mask and protective suit for multiple periods throughout the day.
  • Physical ability to repeatedly lift and carry 30-pound bags of powder up and down stairs.
  • Willingness to work in a cleanroom environment with strict procedures and dress requirements.
  • Comfort working in a dirty process area where materials may come into contact with wrists and PPE.
  • Reliability and consistency in attendance and work history.
  • Comfort with a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, including day or night shifts and every other weekend.

Work Environment

The role is based in a very large, modern production facility where employees walk between multiple buildings and across the plant throughout the day. The Electrode Department operates as a cleanroom, requiring employees to wear specialized garb, including cleanroom suits and beard nets when applicable. The area is meticulously clean, temperature-controlled, and brightly lit, with a strong focus on 5S3K principles to maintain organization and safety. Work in the Mixing Department involves a dirty process where powders and slurry are present, so full PPE, including a full-face respirator mask and a painter-style protective suit, is required several times per day. Jewelry, including rings, is not permitted while working. The position follows a rotating 12-hour schedule (6 a.m. to 6 p.m. or 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.), with a pattern of two days on, two days off, three days on, alternating between 36-hour and 48-hour weeks and including every other weekend.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
