Job Description

The Production Technician safely and efficiently operates plasma reactors and related equipment to produce high-quality fertilizers in a dynamic startup manufacturing environment. This role monitors and optimizes reactor performance, performs routine maintenance, supports process improvements, and ensures all products meet strict quality and safety standards while following established chemical handling and industrial safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently manage the operation of plasma reactors in accordance with production schedules.
  • Monitor reactor parameters in real time and adjust settings to optimize performance, throughput, and product quality.
  • Operate and clean production equipment, including reactors, pumps, tanks, blenders, and absorbers.
  • Perform a wide range of tasks to install, maintain, and repair production machinery and plant facilities.
  • Carry out regular preventive maintenance on reactors and associated equipment to ensure reliable operation.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot operational issues, implementing corrective actions and cleanings to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure produced fertilizers meet predefined quality standards by conducting tests and inspections to verify composition, effectiveness, and safety.
  • Work closely with engineers to refine production techniques and implement improvements that increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.
  • Adhere to all workplace safety guidelines and environmental regulations, including those specific to chemical industrial operations.
  • Participate in safety drills and training sessions and consistently maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Maintain accurate production records, including maintenance activities and quality control results, and use this data to generate reports for management review.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including research and development, to support the development of new fertilizer formulations and production methods.
  • Use hand tools and power tools to assemble, disassemble, and adjust large industrial equipment and installations.
  • Perform general labor tasks as needed, including heavy lifting and material handling such as lifting 50-pound bags of product.
  • Safely operate material handling equipment such as forklifts and scissor lifts in accordance with site procedures.
Essential Skills
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with production machinery and plant facilities.
  • Hands-on experience with hand tools and power tools for mechanical assembly, disassembly, and installation work.
  • Ability to disassemble and work on large industrial equipment in a production environment.
  • Capability to lift and move 50-pound bags of product and perform other physically demanding tasks.
  • Experience with general production or general labor work in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve mechanical and operational issues on production equipment.
  • Strong understanding of chemical processes and safety protocols applicable to chemical industrial operations.
  • Technical knowledge related to production processes, equipment, and basic chemistry.
  • Proficiency in mechanical installation work, including experience with hoses, cords, tubing, and PVC piping.
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift in a production or warehouse environment.
  • Ability to operate a scissor lift safely for tasks at height, following all safety procedures.
  • Ability to wear and work effectively while using a respirator when required.
  • Commitment to following safety guidelines, environmental regulations, and proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Attention to detail in recording production data, maintenance activities, and quality control results.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working in a chemical production, fertilizer, or related process manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with plasma reactors or other specialized process equipment used in chemical or fertilizer production.
  • Experience collaborating with engineers and research and development teams on process improvements or new product development.
  • Comfort working in a startup environment where processes evolve and continuous improvement is encouraged.
  • Ability to interpret basic technical documentation, work instructions, and safety procedures.
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams across operations, maintenance, and R&D.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and maintain accurate records.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training related to safety, equipment operation, and process optimization.

Work Environment

This role is based in a startup-style production facility located in a large warehouse environment that can be cold or hot depending on the season. You will work around plasma reactors, pumps, tanks, blenders, absorbers, and other industrial equipment, as well as forklifts and scissor lifts for material handling and access. The position follows structured shift schedules, including Monday to Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and an alternative schedule of Thursday to Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Personal protective equipment is required, including safety glasses and a respirator when needed, and you will follow established safety and chemical handling protocols at all times.

This is a Contract position based out of Fremont, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $30.00/hr.
