Position Summary:
The Fabrication Supervisor oversees daily operations in the fabrication department, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production of metal components used in commercial roll-up doors. This role provides hands-on leadership, supports team development, drives continuous improvement, and ensures work is completed according to production schedules, quality standards, and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management
· Supervise, coach, and support fabrication technicians, welders, machine operators, and other assigned staff.
· Assign daily work tasks and adjust priorities based on production needs.
· Train team members on equipment, processes, safety protocols, and quality expectations.
· Conduct performance check-ins, reinforce expectations, and participate in evaluations and corrective actions when needed.
· Foster a positive, respectful, and collaborative work environment.
Production Oversight
· Monitor workflow and ensure all fabrication tasks are completed on time, including cutting, welding, forming, machining, punching, and assembling.
· Review work orders, drawings, and material requirements to ensure accuracy.
· Support setups, troubleshooting, and adjustments on fabrication equipment (shears, presses, mills, lathes, MIG welders, roll forming, etc.).
· Ensure proper documentation of production output, scrap, downtime, and material usage.
Quality Control
· Inspect in-process and completed components for accuracy and conformance to specifications.
· Coach employees on quality expectations and proper inspection techniques.
· Escalate and investigate quality issues, implementing corrective actions.
Safety & Compliance
· Enforce all safety policies, PPE requirements, and lockout/tagout procedures.
· Ensure employees follow safe lifting, equipment operation, and material-handling practices.
· Conduct safety checks, participate in incident investigations, and drive a safety-first culture.
Inventory & Material Management
· Ensure proper management of raw material inventory
· Oversee accurate tracking of material usage, scrap, and returns to inventory.
· Collaborate with purchasing and warehouse teams to maintain sufficient stock levels.
· Ensure all materials are labeled, organized, and stored safely to support efficient production flow.
· Report discrepancies, shortages, or overages and help investigate root causes.
Continuous Improvement
· Identify opportunities to improve workflow, reduce waste, and increase throughput.
· Partner with maintenance and leadership on equipment reliability and preventive maintenance schedules.
· Support 5S, Lean, or operational excellence initiatives.
Job Requirements
Education & Experience
· High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred.
· 3–5 years of experience in metal fabrication, welding, machining, or manufacturing.
· 3+ years of supervisory or lead experience preferred.
Technical Skills
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and fabrication drawings.
· Working knowledge of fabrication processes such as:
· MIG welding
· Sheet metal forming
· Punching and machining
· Roll forming and coil handling
· Familiarity with calipers, gauges, and measurement tools.
· Basic computer skills (production software, ERP entry, email).
Other Job Responsibilities and Physical Requirements:
Physical Requirements
· Ability to lift 40–50 lbs regularly.
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the shift in a production environment.
· Comfortable working around machinery and fabrication tools.
