Job Title: Bagger Operator

Job Description

The Bagger Operator plays a key role in the seed processing operation by manually filling, sealing, labeling, loading, and stacking bags of processed crop seed, then transporting finished pallets to designated locations using a forklift. This role combines hands-on production work with material handling and basic equipment operation, while maintaining quality standards and a clean, safe work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manually fill bags with processed crop seed according to established weights and specifications.
  • Seal and label bags accurately to ensure proper identification and traceability of product.
  • Stack filled and sealed bags onto pallets in a stable and organized manner.
  • Operate a forklift to load, move, and transport pallets of bagged product to designated locations onsite.
  • Perform general material handling tasks, including loading, unloading, and staging product as needed.
  • Assist with grain elevator operations, including climbing ladders and accessing the roof area during warmer months to support loading and running the elevator.
  • Conduct basic quality checks on bagged product to ensure correct fill levels, proper sealing, accurate labeling, and overall product integrity.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area by sweeping, organizing materials, and following housekeeping standards.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, including safe lifting practices and proper use of equipment.
  • Work effectively as part of a production team to meet daily output and efficiency goals.
  • Adapt to changing production demands, including working additional days or hours during busy season.
  • Communicate any equipment issues, safety concerns, or product quality problems to appropriate personnel promptly.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to lift 40–50 pounds independently throughout the shift on a regular basis.
  • Ability to climb up to 70 feet on a ladder independently throughout the shift, including accessing the roof to support grain elevator operations.
  • Willingness to learn how to operate a forklift or previous experience operating a forklift, with the understanding that forklift operation will comprise approximately one-third of the work time.
  • Comfort working in a production or general labor environment with repetitive manual tasks.
  • Attention to detail to ensure accurate filling, sealing, labeling, and stacking of bags.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to safety and quality procedures.
  • Reliability and consistency in attendance, punctuality, and meeting shift requirements.
  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, lift, and climb for the duration of the shift.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous forklift or fork truck experience is helpful and preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing, distribution, automotive, or agricultural roles is preferred.
  • General production, packaging, bagging, and material handling experience is beneficial.
  • Experience with stacking, palletizing, or warehouse operations is an advantage.
  • Ability to work different shifts, including 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift, and to adjust to seasonal schedule changes.
  • Comfort working in environments that are not temperature controlled and may involve some outdoor tasks.

Why Work Here?

After completing 540 hours, employees become eligible for conversion to full-time status with access to additional opportunities such as raises and shift differentials. The organization offers flexibility in shift preferences, allowing individuals to remain on 2nd or 3rd shift long-term if desired. During busy seasons, the team supports one another through increased workloads while still prioritizing safety and reasonable breaks, especially in extreme conditions. The environment encourages learning new skills such as forklift operation and grain elevator support, providing a solid foundation for long-term growth in production and agricultural operations.

Work Environment

This is a shift-based production role in an enclosed seed processing facility that is not temperature controlled. Employees primarily work indoors on bagging and processing operations, with some outdoor tasks, especially in warmer months, when loading product into and running the grain elevator. As of the current schedule, 1st shift runs 7:00 AM–3:00 PM Monday through Friday, 2nd shift runs 3:00 PM–11:00 PM Monday through Friday, and 3rd shift runs 11:00 PM–7:00 AM Sunday through Thursday. During the busy season, typically September through November, all shifts transition to a 7-day workweek with the same shift hours, and some Saturdays may be required outside of that period. Upon conversion to full-time, 1st shift employees move into a rotating schedule (two weeks on 1st shift and two weeks on 2nd shift each month), while employees who prefer 2nd or 3rd shift can remain on those shifts long-term. The facility uses large fans in the summer and allows extra breaks during extreme conditions to support safety and comfort. The atmosphere is industrial, active, and team-oriented, with music often playing in the facility and a focus on maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient operation.
