Job Description

  • The Process Technician performs a wide range of tasks that support microelectronic manufacturing operations in a cleanroom environment. This role works closely with engineers and production operators to set up and calibrate equipment, perform rework and quality testing on parts and assemblies, and use data-driven methods to adjust and improve manufacturing processes. The Process Technician helps maintain consistent production flow, supports process and equipment troubleshooting, and contributes to the development and refinement of manufacturing methods and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and document the operation of production machines to ensure stable and efficient performance.
  • Maintain the flow of production parts and promptly report inconsistencies or issues in the process.
  • Suggest improvements to the production process based on observations, data, and experience.
  • Troubleshoot complex or problematic equipment and collaborate with facilities teams or external vendors to coordinate repairs or modifications.
  • Run engineering tests as prescribed by engineers and perform periodic calibration checks on equipment and instruments.
  • Recommend process improvements based on test results and process performance, and troubleshoot machine setups to ensure optimal operation.
  • Visually inspect parts at required steps in the process, paying close attention to detail and verifying that parts meet specified tolerances.
  • Make disposition decisions on reject parts and help train operators and inspectors to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Maintain, order, and track tools in alignment with safety guidelines and vendor recommendations.
  • Use measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and other optical tools to verify part dimensions and quality.
  • Participate actively in 5S initiatives to maintain an organized, safe, and efficient work area.
  • Use Excel to accurately enter production and test data, and create graphs to support analysis and reporting.
  • Set up and potentially program production or test machinery as needed to support manufacturing operations.
  • Read and interpret specifications and mechanical drawings to ensure correct setup and inspection of parts.
  • Comply with applicable company policies, ISO 9000 and other ISO requirements, and ITAR regulations in all daily activities.
  • Occasionally perform the duties of an operator or material handler to support production needs.
  • Potentially assign and check the work of lower-level technicians and operators, providing guidance and support as needed.

Essential Skills

  • 1–2 years of prior manufacturing experience.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to work effectively in a microelectronic cleanroom manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with process operations, equipment setup, and troubleshooting in a production setting.
  • Ability to perform detailed visual inspection of parts, including microscope inspection, to verify adherence to specified tolerances.
  • Proficiency using measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, CMM, and other optical tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications and mechanical drawings.
  • Working knowledge of Excel, including accurate data entry and basic graph creation.
  • Familiarity with automated process equipment setup and troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of and adherence to ISO 9000 and other ISO requirements.
  • Ability to comply with ITAR-related requirements as a U.S. person.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality in a deadline-driven production environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a cleanroom or semiconductor manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in microelectronic manufacturing or similar high-precision production.
  • Experience with basic CNC operations.
  • Experience with coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
  • Comfort using microscopes for inspection and process verification.
  • Familiarity with 5S or other continuous improvement and workplace organization programs.
  • Ability to recommend and support process improvements based on data and hands-on experience.
  • Capability to provide guidance or informal leadership to lower-level technicians and operators.

Work Environment

  • This role is based in a microelectronic cleanroom manufacturing environment within a department of approximately 30 employees. The workspace is a controlled environment that supports high-precision, quality-driven production and operates on deadline-driven schedules. You will work around semiconductor and automated process equipment, microscopes, and precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, CMM, and other optical instruments. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, & adherence to 5S principles.
Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.50/hr.
