Process Technician

Starts, qualifies, troubleshoots and evaluates process parameters of molded parts based on knowledge of machines, materials, blueprints and customer quality criteria. Monitors, evaluates and advises adjustments of Work Order Instructions in accordance with customer requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Reads specifications to determine machine setup and prescribed temperature and time settings. Evaluates settings based on material data sheets and process guides.
  • Sets machine controls, monitors and confirms molding temperature, volume of plastic, molding pressure and time in accordance to knowledge of plastics and molding procedures.
  • Starts and troubleshoots machine processes to produce sample product. Visually inspects sample product for surface and inspects for dimensional defects, using microscope, micrometer, and gauges, and adjusts machine setup to eliminate defects.
  • Qualifies new and transfer tools as required using varying techniques which may include Scientific Molding principles and Tooling / Part Validation protocols.
  • Submits samples representative of production to Quality Assurance for approval and takes necessary action based on feedback provided. Works with Quality to evaluate, improve and troubleshoot all processes in accordance with customer requirements.
  • Generates, maintains and confirms Set-up sheet information as well as digitally stored process parameters.
  • Regularly evaluates processes and work-cell layout for improvement opportunities.
  • Performs multi-insert mold changeovers as needed.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and a minimum of eight years injection molding experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must be able to use measuring devices such as rules, calipers, weight scales and machine instrumentation.
