Job Description

The Process Engineer is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of pipeline, terminal, and processing facilities. This role emphasizes process design, optimization, hydraulic analysis, safety compliance, and operational troubleshooting across natural gas, NGL, refined products, CO₂, and terminal assets. The Process Engineer collaborates closely with Operations, Project Engineering, Integrity, and HSE teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop project design bases and feed studies for proposed Operations & Maintenance (O&M) and capital projects.
  • Assist with developing, monitoring, and implementing capital project estimates.
  • Review, maintain, and update Process Safety Information (PSI), including Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Cause & Effect Matrices (C&E), Consequences of Deviation (COD), Pressure Relief Valve Calculations, and Maximum Intended Inventory (MII).
  • Perform detailed sizing, design, and specification of all major equipment within gas processing facilities, such as compression, heat exchangers, pumps, towers, separators, heaters, and control valves.
  • Perform and/or validate relief valve and flare system sizing/evaluations.
  • Review and provide feedback on equipment drawings, vessel calculations, and construction drawings.
  • Provide technical support for startups, troubleshooting, and plant turnarounds.
  • Prepare and coordinate engineering reports, calculations, studies, and presentations.
  • Participate in the completion of Management of Change (MOC) requirements.
  • Develop and update process and equipment specifications and standards.
  • Act as a liaison between project management, operations, and third-party engineering contractors to ensure facility and equipment purchases meet design requirements.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. Mechanical Engineering will be considered with applicable process engineering experience.
  • 10 years of experience in design, construction, or operation of refinery or condensate splitter operations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve in the field and remotely.
  • Experience with process facility instrumentation, controls, and automation.
  • Ability to develop, read, and interpret mechanical diagrams.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface with a diverse range of personnel.
  • Experience and understanding of compression, flare systems, and fractionation.
  • Functional knowledge of ASME B31.3, ASME Section VII Div 1, API 520/521, and other RAGAGEP standards and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with pipeline, compressor stations, pump stations, terminals, storage, and splitter facilities.
  • Experience supporting PHMSA-regulated facilities.
  • Familiarity with PLC/SCADA operating interfaces.
  • Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Familiarity with OSHA 1910.119 Process Safety Management (PSM) of Highly Hazardous Chemicals and EPA 40CFR Part 68 Risk Management Plan (RMP).
  • Experience with third-party equipment manufacturer sizing software applicable to the gas processing industry.
  • Onsite facility commissioning and operational troubleshooting.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Certification is preferred but not required.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $75.00/hr.
