Job Title: Process Engineer

Job Description

The Process Engineer will be responsible for developing and optimizing new machining processes for programs entering the plant, with a focus on programming CNC lathes. This role involves creating, optimizing, and implementing CNC programs for multi-axis Swiss-style lathes. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of precision machining principles, tooling, and the ability to interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings. They will support the production team, ensure quality standards are met, and contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives.

  • Typical working hours are from 7am to 3:30pm, with some flexibility for earlier shifts.
    • Engineers average 45-hour work weeks.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize CNC programs for Swiss-type lathes using CAD/CAM software.
  • Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), to determine optimal machining strategies.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and work holding devices to ensure efficient and accurate machining.
  • Perform article inspections, working closely with the quality team to verify part conformance to specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve programming and machining issues to minimize downtime and maintain production schedules.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to lead personnel, setup personnel, and machine operators, including training on setups and program improvements.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, collaborating with engineering and production to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Maintain accurate records of CNC programs, setup sheets, and process documentation.
  • Promote a safety-conscious work environment and adhere to all company safety regulations and best practices.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience as a Manufacturing/Process Engineer in developing, implementing, and optimizing machining manufacturing processes.
  • 5+ years of experience in medical device, aerospace, or high tolerance precision machining industries.
  • 3+ years of experience programming CNC lathes (Swiss, Citizen, Star, SR, Murata, NLX, Mitsubishi, Hass).
  • Proficiency in Esprit or MasterCAM and G+M code.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and machines simultaneously.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Engineering Degree or certificate in CNC machining or manufacturing technology is nice to have.
  • Experience in continuous improvement (lean manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen).
  • Experience selecting equipment for manufacturing.
  • Prior job shop experience, especially in a high-mix, low-volume environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.87 - $58.00/hr.
