Principal Plan Review Specialist positions plan, direct, and coordinates, through subordinate supervisors, the operations of several units of Plan Review Specialist; develops section policies and procedures; implements training plans; serve as the department expert on permit set up and issuance rules and procedures; serves as liaison with other DSD divisions, City departments and outside agencies; reviews, responds to, and resolves complex and sensitive customer appeals; selects, assigns, trains, and rates the work subordinates; and perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE: Three years of full-time experience in the review of building plans for compliance with applicable codes and regulations pertaining to the issuance of engineering, water and sewer, and building permits, including one year of full-time supervisory experience equivalent to the City of San Diego’s classification of Supervising Plan Review Specialist (a position that performs in a fast-paced, high-volume customer service environment; interpret codes and policies; prepare reports and correspondence; develop policies and procedures; and resolve conflicts review building construction plans for single family residences and duplexes for compliance with the California Residential Code of Regulations, Green Building Code, Title 24 Energy Conservation Codes, water/sewer requirements; review and evaluate plans for completeness, determine the appropriate review and approval processes, assess fees, set up projects for review, and act as the single point of contact for the customer both pre and post-approval).
