Job Title: Press Feeder
Job Description

Responsible for the preparation and operation of the automatic feeder and maintaining the trailing coater. Additionally, assist the press operator in tandem press operations as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the press feed section according to the sheet size involved.
  • Assist the press operator in setting up the press, installing press plates, setting dampeners and rollers, filling the ink fountain, and preparing the fountain solution with the correct pH and conductivity.
  • Check each load of plates for the correct size, job number, plate position, and general condition before feeding.
  • Line up loads for proper continuous feeding and adjust the double sheet ejector.
  • Remain alert during the run to ensure correct feeder operation, preventing jams or damage to press components.
  • Insert sheet holding forks near the end of each load for continuous feeding.
  • Assist the press operator during runs in mixing inks, washing press plates and blankets, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Take responsibility for complete press operation during the temporary absence of the press operator, under their supervision.
  • Perform miscellaneous oiling of the press and feeder as directed.
  • Wash up the press during color changes and at the end of the day/shift/week.
  • Maintain an accurate day log card and order work copies with operations performed, sheet counts, and spoilage.
  • Occasionally hand pile sheets on the feeder skid as assigned.
  • Set up the trailing coater and maintain film weight, viscosity, and coverage during runs.
  • Change the composition coating roller as necessary and wash up the coating machine between material changes and at the end of the day/shift/week.
Essential Skills
  • Experience in printing press operation, troubleshooting, and quality inspection.
  • Ability to assist operators with setups, including press plating and other tasks.
  • Capability to clean the press daily and log information accurately.
  • Detail-oriented with mechanical skills and knowledge of lithography and machine operation.
  • Ability to pass the Farnsworth Munsell 100 Hue Test.
  • Proficiency in using and reading basic measuring equipment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend work order and layout specifications.
  • Knowledge of coating materials.
  • High school diploma, GED equivalency, or vocational certificate required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Capability to work with ports or materials weighing up to approximately 60 lbs.
  • Position requires standing most of the time.

Work Environment

The lithography department is climate controlled, fostering a close-knit culture. Work shifts include 6 am - 4 pm, Monday to Friday, 3 pm - 11 pm with a 7% premium when moved to 2nd shift after training, and 11 pm - 7 am with a 15% premium when moved to 3rd shift after training. Training occurs on the 1st shift from 7 am - 3 pm for 3-8 weeks.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60216.00 - $69248.40/yr.
